We called in on a very cold wet and dark day in early January. This was one of only a few places that appeared to be open. The lady behind the counter made us a very good Americano (well, you never know, being north of the border..), and I'm afraid I could not resist the coffee and walnut cake. I work on the maxim that if you are going to succomb to temptation, it had better be worth it. And this cake certainly was. The old building is characterful, warm and welcoming, and most important of all - open. If in Callender, call here.

While on a National Coach Holiday, we stopped at Callander and after a walk around town we were looking for somewhere for a hot cuppa and a snack to keep us going until we got back to our hotel.
Some local people told us about Deli Ecosse, and said it was in Ancaster Square.
I knew that was beside the church that used to house the Rob Roy exhibition, and after a short walk past the church up the narrow road we seen it hidden in the corner.
On entering we got a great reception off the girls working in there, and after being seated beside the log fire pondered over the menu, we opted for a bowl of soup each which arrived with bread rolls and butter.
The soup was lovely and hot and very tasty. we also enjoyed a large pot of tea each, followed by a scone each with cream and jam--DELICIOUS !! Very reasonably priced.
There are books and magazines to read while you are eating/drinking and places of interest information.
The café is NOT in a church as someone said but is in the old Church Hall that was used as a Sunday School etc.
Thanks to the locals for pointing us to it, next time in Callander we know where to go.

Despite the rather cool welcome we persevered and ordered brunch. All the food was freshly cooked to order and the staff happily accomodated the rather specific requirements of a fussy youngster (she still didn't eat it!!!!). Healthy portions, lovely breakfasts and soup. Will visit again.

I had a bacon roll and choked on it and a Fanta
With my father the placing of it is very stupid and it used to be a church
