“Will Spoil You for Anywhere Else!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2012

The Broad Oak B&B in Brockenhurst was an experience that will stay with us for many years, (and I'm sure we'll be back very soon). The building itself is lovely, with our spacious, beautifully decorated room containing quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on in my life.) But be advised to go there soon, Sue and Mike Joiner seem to be planning to change from their phenomenally generous current "we"ll give you enough food and drink - of your own choosing- to feed a battalion" scheme, to self-catering.

Even then, the kitchen is very fully equipped, with microwave and a truly state of the art hot plate and mini-cooker the likes of which we had never seen before.

The hosts are also incredibly giving with their time, with Sue driving us and pointing out features of interest all over the area.

The location is also a strong feature, being easy walking distance to Brockenhurst town centre, as well as the nearby moors.

All round, a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The Magic Carpet room is more spacious, but the Princess and the Pea has a truly massive bed.

Ok. So it's the perfect spot for a tranquil, romantic holiday. Ok. It's somewhere that has retained the traditional English character. Ok. Value-for-money? I can't believe they made any profit given what was provided. Well, the thing over and above all this that set Broad Oak apart is the warm reception with which we were received on this, our first visit. Nothing was too much trouble. Having been treated as well as close family members, we'll be back again, and again, for more magical, therapeutic interludes in our otherwise frenetic lives. Our next stay is booked!

We stayed for 2 nights early November in the Princess and the Pea. Once your fairy tale memory recall button has been pushed you will have a wonderful experience with Sue and Mike in this lovely setting. I don't need to describe the location as others have already put in that effort but suffice to say we did not find it difficult to locate. The room and bathroom was perfect for our needs. A very comfortable bed, clean and well stocked bathroom and a small functional kitchen area was exactly what we wanted and that's what we got. What we did not expect were the complimentary extras such as food, wine, and a stock cupboard to make a reasonable meal. A word of caution, if you let her, Sue will substantially add to your weight! You have been warned!!

We first stayed at Broad Oaks back in the Spring and we returned for another long weekend at the end of October. We wouldn't normally be inclined to revisit the same place but Susie and Michael were such great hosts we felt compelled. Susie was very kind and generous all weekend and her little touches made the weekend. I won't go into too much detail as I think it can create a sense of expectation and ruin the nice surprises.

Broad Oaks is a beautiful B&B right in the middle of the Forest, on the edge of Brockenhurst. It's a great base for exploring the forest whether you have a car or not. This time we caught the train and even though its not a long walk from the station, we were really surprised that Susie not only picked us up, but also dropped us back at the station when we were leaving.

We stayed over a long weekend for my birthday and it was a more relaxing and enjoyable break that many much longer holidays I've been on. This is the perfect place to come to wind down. There are some great walks and bike rides that start off from Brockenhurst. Susie will also be able to give you plenty of advice on things to do in the area. However, if you don't feel like doing anything, then this is also a great place to just do nothing and eat!

We went to eat at The Pig on my birthday, which I'd also recommend. Susie added some special touches to our room on our return, it was a great end to our evening.

There are two main rooms at Broad Oaks: The Princess and the Pea, and The Magic Carpet. Currently, these can be booked for a weekend or longer, but we were told that in future Susie is hoping to reduce the prices, move towards a more self catered experience and book The Princess and the Pea for three day stints only, and The Magic Carpet for a week at a time. We're looking forward to our next trip!

Room Tip: We've only stayed in the Magic Carpet. The Princess and the Pea also looks very nice.

We were in the New Forrest for a cycle event, and decided to stay rather and have a couple of nights away rather than rushing back to London. We stayed in the Romany Vardo room that is only booked out when the rest are full. It is designed in the style of a Gypsy caravan. The fridge is fully stocked with more than enough food for every meal of the day, and the owners are extremely friendly and welocming. We have already recommended this place to friends and family and will definately be going back again.

My partner and I stayed for the weekend and had a great time. Sue, the host, certainly "goes the extra mile" and looked after us so well. The room was amazing with an extensive stock of food. Hope to go back and stay again soon.

Sue runs an amazing, friendly, enchanting and captivating B&B where each guest is made to feel special. After arriving and finding our beautiful "Princess and the Pea" room immaculate we were presented with the most wonderful array of foods and drinks (food questionnaire sent prior to arrival) which are so delicious one is tempted not to actually leave the room! The cleaninless is second to none, the thought into the details of the furnishings is eccentrically magical and I am so pleased this was the B&B I booked. Will definetely be returning!
