Whilst dodging the traffic on the way back to our car we paused at this well-described piece of history. There is an informative plaque and it is simply a pleasant pause to reflect on the history of this beautiful, buzzing, classy small town.

Situated at the North end of the town, Beverley's North Bar is also known as the Georgian Quarter. It has a number of independent shops, cafes and restaurants where you are bound to find something a little bit more interesting than the usual High Street fayre. North Bar is where you will find the magnificent St Mary's Church which, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful churches in England. Weekend visitors should also check out North Bar Folk Club which has excellent guests performing every month and is open to everyone.

As you can gather from other reviews, this small archway isn't something you would travel miles to see. If you are in the lovely town of Beverley already however, you should certainly pop along.

It's not just the fact that this old bar is the only part of the original fortifications left, it's also because it is in a very nice Georgian part of the town centre and next to a rather pleasant little park (Coronation Garden). Reading the various historic signs and looking at the copies of old oil paintings situated on the walls gives a real feel of how this part of town would have been like in bygone days.

I thought it was all rather pleasant.

Didn't go inside but the history of the building is written outside. There is a very detailed description of the cost to build it and who by.

A wonderful piece of history within the historic town of Beverley well worth a visit and to read about the history on the plaque. Walk through turn left and walk to the wonderful Westwood and onto the Racecourse. Note the Georgian houses on either side of the Bar.
