“cosy and welcoming”
Reviewed October 11, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

My husband and I stayed here on a 3 night break, Farm cottage is a lovely cosy cottage with the added bonus of a real fire. The owners Chris and Emma are so helpful and nothing to much trouble for them. On arrival we were greeted with some beautiful homemade buiscuts and we were able to buy fresh eggs which are from the many friendly chickens. The addition of the hot tub and pool and games room is fab, sitting in hot tub taking in the scenery.......beautiful. Will definitely return, great for family, lovely place.

“Happy memories”
Reviewed December 23, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Circumstances have meant we didn't review this cottage immediately after our stay but that means we are able to give a considered report. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week in this lovely little cottage with its cosy sitting rooom, excellent new kitchen and comfortable bedroom. Yes, the sloping roof in the bathroom can be a bit awkward but it's only for a week!
The setting and views are fantastic and you can get to know the hens who are providing freshly laid eggs for you to buy.

“Peaceful Break in Winter Wonderland”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Cottages are about 3 miles along single track road from Cotherstone, which is 4 miles from Barnard Castle. Stayed at Farm Cottage which was spacious and well equipped. Arrived whilst snow was falling and found key ready in door. Were able to park at the door whilst unloading and then moved car to car-park at the end of the row of cottages. Biscuits and fresh eggs left for us in kitchen which was a nice gesture. Soon had a nice fire going - wood and coal available for purchase from owners. Bathroom in Farm Cottage has sloping ceiling so headroom at over bath shower is limited. 6 footers may find this a problem. Comfortable bed with electric blanket - plenty of storage in bedroom. Spacious, well equipped kitchen/diner. Most importantly, the cottage was very clean.
Spent 4 days touring around Alston, Penrith, Kirby Stephen, Brough, Barnard Castle areas. Weather was OK for driving but plenty of snow covering the fields and hills - with so little traffic about, the scenery was really beautiful.
Great place to stay for those seeking peace and quiet.

“Fabulous location, quality accommodation = perfect break”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 for a stay in November 2012

Stayed at "Farm Cottage" which is one of several self catering cottages at East Briscoe Farm Cottages, run by Chris and Emma. They are very welcoming and helpful, the perfect host

When we arrived there was a plate of freshly baked scones, blackcurrant jam and everything for pot of tea or coffee waiting. What a lovely tough and the scones and jam were delicious. There was also 2 complmentary fresh free range eggs laid by one of their many hens

The cottage is on 2 floors and was very cosy, with an open fire if you wished to light this. A huge kitchen with everything you need. Living room had TV DVD and plenty of books and games. There was also a welcome folder with plenty of local information. A separate book of local walks was also available. A collection of DVD was also available. Free wi fi is also available

Upstairs was a large bedroom with king size bed, huge walk in wardrobe. bathroom was also very large with bath and shower. One minor gripe was the bathroom has a sloping roof. If you had a shower depending on your height you may not be able to stand up straight, I could not and I am 5 ft 9

The location is great you are in the middle of nowhere so very quiet. Nearest village is Cotherstone about 2 miles away, with Barnard Castle a further 4 miles away.

The grounds are wonderful with a nearby river and waterfall and plenty of open space to roam about. I would imagine on a summers day this place would be perfect particularly for those with young children. A safe environment to play, with swings a trampoline and lots of space to run around. The hens roam about the grounds and there is also a nearby bird feeder to watch birds. There are also several picnic tables as well as an outdoor barbecue area

The ideal place, there is nothing to do and plenty of nothing to do but relax. If however you want to do things there is plenty to do,lots of local walks and places to visit

Would highly recommend these cottages

“What all self-catering cottages should be like”

If your after a lovely area, plenty to do, or just want to get away from it all, then stay at these cottages. We stayed in Farm cottage and from the moment we arrived, the friendly owners, to the 'welcome tray' complete with home-made biscuits and free range eggs from the local hens (eggs also available to purchase daily), to the extras provided, books, dvds, maps, local information, we felt like home away from home. In the kitchen we found all those things that make all the difference, like paper towel, tea, coffee, oil for cooking with, tinfoil etc, etc, The cottages are in an isolated spot, its so quiet, but beautiful views and its only a ten minute drive to Cotherstone where there is PO, local shop. Barnard Castle town is the nearest place to get other essentials.
