Stayed here on the easter weekend, as soon as we entered the reception area there was a very warm and friendly welcome from the staff.our luggage was taken to our rooms.lovely hotel a bit dated needs t.l.c in some areas.corridors are narrow celings seem low and creaky floorboards. Restaurant and bar in the basement quite roomy, restaurant staff friendly polite, professional and smart, nothing too much trouble for them ,excellent service, great hot food served. Bar staff also polite and friendly.fun quiz every night (no prize) followed by bingo and good all round entertainment. Hotel situated about 10 mins flat walk to town with shops and cafes on route. All in all it was an enjoyable stay at the Russell/ Will stay again.

Room Tip: Room 018 ground floor on top of kitchen= very noisy in the mornings

We stayed at the Russell Hotel Monday till Friday. If you read the review by Ley37 you will get a good description of the hotel. Clean beds, good food and good entertainment in the evenings. After breakfast our waitress asked us to order the starter and main course for dinner that evening always 3 alternative choices, 2 deserts or cheese and biscuits + tea/coffee.The only negative for this hotel is that it could do with a lick of paint on the outside and the bedroom we had needed a face lift.
All in all a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Our room was on the back or the hotel 1st floor it was quiet.

We went to this hotel to suprise friends who go for the dancing with Pierre in the ballroom of the Prince Regent which is attached to the Russell.
This was our first experience of the hotel and can honestly say it was a very pleasant one the food was good and the room we had was a sea view excellent value for money we would come again.
Would agree with Ley37 Review sums up the Hotel perfectly.

Room Tip: Can only speak for the room we had which was sea view and to have the sunshine to greet you in the m...

We stayed at the Russell for 2 nights in the second weekend of March. Upon arrival in the late afternoon we went round to the back of the hotel and found the two small car parks belonging to the hotel. They were totally packed, but after speaking with a man who was standing in the car park, once he ascertained that we were guests of the Russell, he directed us further down the road to another car park and showed us a space in there which we could park in. This car park turned out to belong to the Prince Regent Hotel which is next door, and joined to the Russell via a corridor. The Russell’s front door closes fairly early on the evening, but you can access the hotel via the Prince Regent and by walking along the corridor. Upon check in you are asked if you are blocking in anyone in in the car park, and if you are you have to hand over your car keys. The management then move your car as and when necessary.

We were on the first floor in a twin room. We found this to be perfectly adequate, it was warm, had tea and coffee making facilities which were topped up the next day, a tv, extra blankets and pillows in the cupboard, and also a small heater and fan. We saw earlier reviews saying people thought the hotel was cold, we certainly didn’t have that problem when we stayed, if anything it was rather hot both in and out of the room. We just turned down the radiator for the night and the temperature was perfect for us.

At breakfast we were seated on a table along with two gentleman, and another couple on a two table next to us. At first we didn’t really like having to share with strangers, but actually it was no problem at all, they were all perfectly pleasant people to chat to and its only an hour out of your day, if that. We had to wait a little while to put in our order for cooked breakfast as it was rather busy in the room, but when it arrived it was very nice food. We were only B&B so cant comment on dinner.

We went along to the bar on the first evening and found a little quiz on each table which we had a go at, and then later on they did bingo as well which was fun. After that they had a gentleman playing the keyboard and singing which was entertaining. We didn’t sit right on the dance floor, but rather behind it in the next room, and could still hear perfectly well through the wall. We thought the drink prices were fairly reasonable for a hotel, and were pleasantly surprised when we came in the next night after having dinner out to find that the hotel had been serving 2-4-1 drinks since 5pm that evening. We found out at breakfast that apparently the hotel had even run out of wine during the promotion as it was so popular.

The hotel is right on the front, and about a 10 minute stroll into town where there are lots of shops to keep you busy. We were very lucky with the weather while we stayed so we spent some time just walking along the front eating ice creams!

On our second evening we decided to go out for dinner and found a lovely little Italian place called Enzo just a few minutes down the road from the hotel. It was very busy but they let us in and sat us downstairs in the bar area perusing the menu while they waited for a clear table to place us at. We probably only waited about 10 minutes in total and, still hadn’t decided what to eat from the extensive menu by then! We both had chicken dishes in the end which were absolutely amazing. We also treated ourselves to dessert as well which was equally as good. Would definitely recommend Enzo for a lovely meal. Obviously it is not cheap, but we didn’t think it was overpriced for what we got as well as the attentive service. There is Wetherspoons further down in the main town which we had lunch in if you’re looking for something cheaper!

All in all we had a very pleasant stay at the Russell, and would likely stay there again when we next visit our family in Weymouth.

We were staying next door in the sister hotel Prince Regent but that hotel had entertainment for the dance client holidaymakers and was not as enjoyable as the entertainment provided by the Russell so most evenings we walked through the adjoining corridor to the Russell.
This hotel had an equally good and even cheaper bar but the entertainment was more to our liking.
Not sure what the accomodation etc was like.but all the guests were friendly and enjoying the informal atmosphere.

Just back from a weekend at the Russell. Had a wonderful time. Basic but clean, toiletries basket a nice touch. The building is old so could get quite noisy with people wandering about. Plenty of choice for breakfast however I didn't see a vegetarian cooked option (Which didn't concern myself but they may want to consider this) and did have to wait untill day two to get vegetarian menu but when they realised there was one in the building they were very accomendating. Menu had a good selection and the broccoli bake I settled on really was delicious!! Staff were helpful and polite and couldn't do enough for you. The evening entertainment was not really for me but other people seamed to throughly enjoy themselves, so can't really moan on what comes down to personal preference. Had a great time and if I happened to be Weymouth way would likely stay there again.
