Our second time to May Cottage and another warm welcome. Sue is a wonderful and attentive host who made sure we were well looked after.

On this occasion we booked a spacious bedroom with a king size bed and, as on our previous stay the room was clean, warm and comfortable.

On arrival, Sue explained that Len (the master chef) is currently not 100%, so there would be no cooked breakfast and this was reflected in the price. Sue told us that she had let guests know via a phone call but, as far as I recall we had not been notified. Sue said she would check her booking notes and later, apologised that we had not been informed about the breakfast situation and kindly offered to pay for us to have a cooked breakfast down in the village. (What a wonderful host, this was a truly generous gesture!). We didn't take Sue up on her offer, the alternative lighter breakfast was enough to see us through.

May Cottage is in an excellent position for accessing the village and all it amenities, only a 2 - 3 minute walk to the heart of it. It also servers as an excellent base for wandering further afield.

Included in the price if you book direct! is free entry to the spa at Burnside Hotel. So, be sure to phone them direct for bookings and, like Sue says "don't forget to pack your swimmers".

Its a great little B&B in a great spot with friendly owners, you can't go wrong.

Thanks to Sue for another warm welcome and we hope Len is 100% again soon!

If I had to score May Cottage out of 5, I'd give it a 7.
Sue is a lovely, friendly and aproachable hostess, who would bend over backwards to help make your stay enjoyable
The room we stayed in was clean and well kept, while the power shower was amazing.
We will definately be returning soon.
5 stars

Warmly greeted by our lovely host Sue. She was so friendly, helpful and informative, with tips and suggestions of things to do and see. The cottage itself was in an ideal location, couple mins walk away from many cafes/bars/shops as well as the lake itself offering boat trips. Our room (1) was a large room, with huge comfortable bed and sitting area and everything you could expect from a B&B and more. Beautiful bathroom with plenty of towels and a very good shower (in bath). Sue offered to store wine in her fridge for us, which was helpful. The breakfast is "light" but as much toast as we could eat, with crumpets, waffles, cereals etc, oh and of course a lovely pot of tea!

We couldnt fault our stay at May Cottage and hope to return. We usually prefer hotels to B&Bs but Sue's welcoming and friendly nature was a real bonus. She was there if ever we needed anything, couldn't do enough for us, but once we were in our room we would never know anyone else was there. Lovely lovely lady who welcomes you into her home, 100% recommend this Cottage.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1, very comfortable huge room.

Arrived early and able to park. Met by the lovely Sue and asked if we required any additional items for the room like toiletries, wine glasses, hair dryer, iron etc. Light breakfast was advertised and no problem for us as more than adequate. Room we expected, clean with very comfy bed, well stocked tea and coffee making facilities. Host Sue was delightful, had a wealth of local knowledge and keen to assist us. Location of May Cottage is perfect for everything on offer in Windermere and beyond, we will definitely return. Thanks Sue, Lynn and Sean

We arrived and were met in the car park by Sue who was checking on our parking despite being sensibly parked as is common sense. We were given the keys to our room but told we couldn't go in yet as something had cropped up. All would be revealed later but no explanation was ever given. We were met later by Sue, as always, who showed us our room. She told us she doesn't provide toiletries! Fortunately I read a review and was prepared but really I think something should be provided even if in dispensers. It's no good if you're in the shower and realise there isn't anything!
Every time you entered or left the cottage Sue would be there hovering around, checking...on what I'm not sure. My husband was told to remove his 'clean' boots when he'd only been to the car!
The breakfast was a massive disappointment having no cooked food whatsoever despite the hearty Full English displayed on their website! This should have been explained at booking!
The cottage was warm and comfortable and in a convenient location but I probably would choose to stay elsewhere on my next visit.
