Fabulous!…

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 7, 2024
We visited today for lunch and it was fabulous.
The hotel now serves food daily in its beautiful Bar & Conservatory. The hotel itself is gorgeous, decor is exquisite, amazing gardens and views to die for.
Following drinks, we chose a main course and dessert for lunch. The food was fantastic, cooked fresh to order and it’s delicious. The desserts were on another level and I didn’t want mine to end..!!
Service was friendly and attentive and nothing too much trouble for the 2 members of staff- Vitor and Jess.
We will certainly return and I can’t recommend it enough.

On arrival at the hotel we received a most pleasant welcome and check in made us feel like we were special guests. As it was our first visit the tour was a very nice touch along with our case being taken to our room whilst we checked in. The room itself was perfect, infact it was impeccable.
Personal service at breakfast was great, much better than the normal buffet style you normally get as the food was fresh and not sat to go dry or be handled by others before you. Portions were just right for us but had we wanted more we only had to ask.
The grounds are beautiful and the little lake with the lodge was idyllic, as an angler I would have been in heaven if fishing was allowed!
There are lots of beautiful statues and statuette's in the hotel and grounds along with beautiful artworks.
The overall experience was, for us, out of this world and we will most definitely be returning in the not too distant future.

Rude bar staff, complete bar and conservatory was empty and we were told we couldn’t sit in front of the fire because he wanted to sit other guest there who were on their way. Gluten free seems to be ridiculous difficult for them to organise in the bar too, eventually the chef came to speak to me and managed to organise me something but the bar staff had no idea of gluten free requirements and were rude when I was finally served making it as if I was being picky.. when in fact I have coeliac disease and I’m pregnant. Breakfast service was very slow we were there over an hour and half - credit to the breakfast staff as there were trying their best and very polite and attentive however it seemed that they were understaffed. Rooms were nice enough but service needs major management overall. The best thing about this hotel is the gardens.

What an amazing place to stay, dine and relax. I appreciate it’s had some serious funding but this is one beautiful place set upon a view of the lake. It literally takes your breath away. The grounds are so well maintained too.
We stayed for two nights and were given an upgrade to a superior room, which was spacious, comfy. The ONLY complaint I had about the room was that people walking outside on the corridor literally made the room shake which wasn’t too good. The conservatory room is amazing.
We ate at Henrock which for the price was really good.
Staff were very helpful and genuinely pleasant.
Wonderful place.

Room tip: Make sure you take some walking gear and explore.

Before you even arrive at this special place, you are called by the hotel. Really unexpected but a nice touch nonetheless. Hotel is easy to find and we were greeted as soon as we arrived. Even though we were a little early for checking in, nothing was said and were given our key plus a little tour without any issues.
The staff make this hotel - exceptional service, friendly and a special mention should go the lady looking after the bar area, she was really good at her job but also friendly and a pleasure to meet.
Our room was lovely but very warm even with no radiators on. The bathroom is packed with Bath House toiletries so no worries if you’ve forgotten your things.
The bed was really comfortable and we both slept well. The only gripe re the room was the lighting. At the desk, where there is a big mirror there is no light there to support putting on your makeup. Really struggled and couldn’t use the bathroom as the Tall one was in there. This could be easily remedied with a table top lamp.
Breakfast is good but could be better - as I’ve mentioned before please could hotels bring back the buffet area where you can help yourself to fruit juice, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. I like to combine and measure my portion size and I especially like having that choice.
Also, the waiter never got our order right on any of our orders - so much so that on the last day the Tall One had to send his breakfast back as it was wrong on all fronts. Whilst the full breakfasts looked plentiful, everything else was slightly underwhelming - sadly there is definitely room for improvement with breakfast.
Regardless of this small area we would most certainly go back

We booked this hotel thinking it was dog-friendly, as you'd assume by their policy of allowing dogs to stay in-room (for an extra fee). We were very disappointed to find that our dog was not allowed in any of the lounge or bar areas. The staff informed us that we could sit in the entrance hall with our dog and have a drink there! We stayed over the Easter weekend. The hotel was very under-staffed. We waited a whole hour for our breakfast to arrive and, even then, we had to forego our cereal, which they'd neglected to bring over. We were told the restaurant hopes to gain a michelin star - not based on this experience.

Room tip: Go in the off-season to avoid the tourist rush.
