Lovely welcome from Carol and cottage had everything you could need. Very cosy and spotlessly clean, we had a very enjoyable 4 days there. Two minute drive or 10 minute walk to Durham which we found delightful. Would stay again.

“Very comfy!”

We stayed for five splendidly comfy nights. Easy to operate central heating, plenty of hot water, well appointed kitchen and equipment - quite sufficient cutlery, crockery and pots and pans. Good parking outside. Met as arranged by Carol the owner. Spacious bedroom with fine linen and towels. Good walking access to the City. Sainsburys and a good pub a couple of minutes walk away. Very happy to return ourselves and to recommend to friends.

Rose Cottage. Durham. 27.5.2015 – 30.5.2015.
We had a lovely three days in this very sweet, well equipped cottage which is about 10 minutes walk into central Durham, 20 minutes to the Castle and Cathedral. The cottage was originally a weavers cottage, and now has a big double bedroom, with good storage space, and a lovely light and airy feel. The bathroom is on the small side, with slopes over the bath and the sink, which made bumping one’s head very easy!
The kitchen and living room are a good size for two people, and the kitchen is one of the most well equipped I have come across in years of self-catering. Everything is clean and well cared for, and there is plenty of it, equipment for up to six people when there is only space for two. Maybe we could have had a party!!
A further treat is that one can park outside the cottage, which we did for the whole of our stay as it is so easy to walk into Durham and not have to pay exorbitant parking fees. There is also a very well stocked Sainsbury’s a couple of minutes walk from the house. The car was safe and it was easy to unload and load the car which was full from having had the best part of three weeks travelling around the Lakes and the Highlands.
Overall I would highly recommend this cottage for a couple who are reasonably mobile (the stairs are very steep), and would have no hesitation in staying if we are ever in that part of the world again.

“Cozy and relaxing home away from home”

You won't regret booking to stay here. Wonderful home away from home. Spotlessly clean, with charming decor and all the things you need to feel at home. Great kitchen with full cooker, washer/dryer, heating, flatscreen TV, hi fi (no USB input), unlimited wifi, lounge & small dining area, super comfortable bed in large upstairs bathroom. Good hot water in shower with just-adequate pressure.

A 15 minute walk from downtown Durham. Quiet area, with a supermarket nearby. Convenient for visiting the cathedral and colleges. On street parking out front. Safe to walk at night. Is a short taxi ride from the railway station (5 pound fare).

Only thing to be aware of it to take care on the stairs - I nearly took a tumble as they're steep and one of them sags in the middle and tips you forward and down. The stairs may present some problems for older or infirm visitors. They're quite steep, and the hand rail isn't suitable to put your full weight on.

This is my #1 recommendation for anyone wanting to stay in Durham, especially for a longer visit of a week or more, since you can really feel at home here.

“So easy and convenient to live in.”

We were spending time in Durham to re-connect with family and to have some holiday time. The cottage gave easy access to both County Durham and to Tyne and Wear and we liked the City of Durham very much. The cottage was clean, comfortable and really well equipped and the local shops provided us with everything that we wanted. Made good use of our National Trust cards, visiting places that were new to us. Cragside was the highlight, but allow a full day to make the most of it.
