A group of 5 friends who don't get to meet up all that often, we decided to give Marty's a try for a bite to eat on the Saturday before Easter, having heard fab things.(One of our party had previously visited and liked it so much that she'd eaten there twice in 2 days.)
We booked a table at 7, allowing plenty of time before two of our party had to get the 8.25 train back to Manchester - or so we thought.
The evening started off well - we ordered drinks and our food. Drinks arrived, then our starters. (Sharing starters for 3, the wagon wheel and olives & cheese - all very tasty)
Whilst eating these, we were brought a bottle of prosecco and two pints - drinks for the table behind us (we didn't accept). Once we'd finished the starters, more were brought to the table - again for the table behind us. We all thought this was quite funny!
So we sat and chatted whilst the tables around us filled up, and the train ladies decided they'd better get the next train as they'd never make the 8.25 one, and we sat and chatted!
Time passed and we started to wonder where or mains were. It was only when the table behind us (who arrived after we did) got their mains that we started to wonder. We asked one of the serving staff who said he'd find out. As we were sat near the kitchen, we watched him go to the hot plate and ask, but he never came back!
Then a table who'd only recently arrived got their mains and we were still waiting. We called over a member of staff, asking about our food and for the manager. By this time or train friends were getting concerned and we were all getting fed up. We were told the food was just coming out. (9.00)
The manager apologised profusely, asked the kitchen and said out food was just coming out. As the train two didn't have time to eat, we cancelled their order. We were offered a round of free drinks which 3 of us accepted, whilst the other two got their coats on.
The food arrived (9.15) - well 4 meals arrived. We explained we'd cancelled the 2 meals no longer needed. The manager offered to box up the extra and the other meal (the two cancelled orders) up as takeaway on the house. These arrived just as our friends were saying their goodbyes.
The manager apologised profusely and said all food would be half price, but it put a real dampner on the night.
It's a shame because when the food did eventually arrive, it was really very tasty.
Ok, we didn't order straight away, but over an hour and a half for a salad, burger and hot dog?! Ok, the kitchen staff were new, but the table of 4 behind us (and all other tables in the place as far as we could see) were served without any problems, so we don't take that as an excuse!
I hope it was a one-off as it was good food and a lovely atmosphere, but it left a sour taste in our mouths and we won't be revisiting.
