Ate here on a trip to the isle of man. The food was delicious. I was with friends and we all had fish which is their speciality. It's quite a small restaurant so would recommend booking in advance

Visited with a party of five on a friday night. I can only describe it as "OK, not bad enough to complain but nothing to rave about". The goats cheese starter was odd, and several pounds over priced. Surf and Turf was disappointing - small, overcooked lobster, and poor grade of steak. Sort of redeemed themselves with an excellent panna cotta.

The prices charged are probably about 20-25% over what the dishes are worth. Other than that, service was slow but OK, decor is attractive, and it won't take much to pull things up to where they should be.

We eat at Tanroagan about four times a year and have discussed going more often. However our initial server on Saturday night had as much warmth as a wet Tuesday in December and argued the toss when we asked her to turn the music down (she said the owner told her to keep it loud--I very much doubt that!). Another server took over our table and she was very pleasant. The food was great, we were comfortable and really enjoyed our meal (as always) but we might hold off going back until there's another staff change.

Hello

Thank you for your kind review of our food.
If it is the member of staff I believe it to be, they have since left the company and the island. We try to set the music and lighting to create a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere for our guests, not too loud, not too quiet, likewise not too bright or too dark. Sometimes the music playlist can spring the odd surprise with a particularly loud song or beat.

We look forward to welcoming you again.

It’s been a couple of years in all probability since we have dined at Tanraogan in Douglas on the beautiful Isle of Man, but my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch there again last week.

This is probably the best seafood restaurant in the Island’s capital. It is located close to the North Quay in Ridgeway Street, just a short walk from the main ‘bus station, the Town Hall and the principal shopping centre. Whilst a wide range of fish dishes predominate, including such favourites as Manx Queenies (Queen scallops), Salmon, Skate; John Dorey; Hake, Halibut, Crab; Dover sole; Lemon sole; Turbot; and Lobster, at least one other choice is usually on offer.

The restaurant is not very large so booking is advisable, in the evenings especially. It is well patronised because proprietor, Joan Mowatt, prides herself on producing an excellent dining experience for all her guests, whether in the day or at night!

The Chefs’ kitchen is at the rear of the restaurant, in full view of diners, and is a place of relaxed proficiency. No shouting or bad language here! Only the freshest ingredients are used by the team of chefs.

After we had both enjoyed our tasty starters, my wife and I decided to have different main courses and both were truly excellent! A nice bottle of Muscadet complimented the fish perfectly, though other wines were available!

I would not hesitate to recommend Tanroagan, confident you will not be disappointed.

We booked for last night for a Birthday meal for our daughter and family. Been many times before and last night did not disappoint either, service was great and friendly, the meal was beautiful, locally caught fish, how can it get better and cooked to perfection, we shall be back.
