My spouse and I just returned from a winter w-e at this little place by the river. We are active outdoors people and we got rather cold but clear and sunny weather, which was great for photos and the hiking we opted for given the poor snow conditions. Upon arrival, we received a very warm and cheery welcome from Lyne who walked us up to our top floor 'superior' room with river view; we were really not sure exactly what qualified as superior in this room given its more than 'quaint' size, tiny double bed and the highly 'simple living' style, but the great half-price deal we had gotten on the lodging portion certainly helped make us more inclined to overlook shortcomings. Lyne certainly aimed to please and promptly offered wine glasses and good dining advice for that 1st evening upon request. My steamed egg & fruit breakfast was great and my spouse thought the crêpes were well garnished with fruit but on the greasy side. Upon returning to our room to change and leave for the day, congratulations to Lybe for this nice touch: she set it up so the cleaning lady took care of our room while we were down to eat! After a great full exercise day at the Mont Parc des Jardins's Mont-du-Lac-des -Cygnes, an a nice shower with plenty of steaming hot water, given the season and the smaller room, it would have been a nice touch had we had access to a cozyer living/dining room with fireplace but we still opted for a Saturday dinner in with chef Gaétan Larouche: unfortunately, although the menu sounded quite creative & enticing, the Thaï smoked salmon appetizer & surprise cake desert were fine, but our rather tasteless tomato soup & overcooked coffee pork filet and veal cordon bleu made it disappointingly short of high gastronomy. The age of the building also seemed to present some noisy bathroom piping & heating challenges, when it would often feel overheated upstairs and chilly on the ground floor. Nevertheless, our 2nd river-view sunny window breakfast was perfect & very pleasant, crowned with nothing but warmth and oh so attractive and compensating generosity by the hosts!

On a golden October evening on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence, we were South of San Simeon on our way to Quebec City. We wanted a perfect place by the river. But we didn't find one so on we drove. It was getting late when we finally arrived at Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, right by the river and saw the Auberge-de-la-Rive, where we met Lyne Girard one of the two owners. She was so charming and welcoming that we knew we had found our perfect place. She showed us both one of the rooms in the Auberge and a room in the motel she owns across the street. Both were charming. We chose the larger room in the motel, with its rich wall colors and matching bedcovers. Later we realized that, by opening the bathroom window, we could hear a stream rushing past the window down to the river. What bliss! Even though it was late, Lyne provided a superb and most interesting dinner, beautifully cooked and presented; she also told us that her great-grandmother had lived there and that, because of that, and because of the beauty of the place, she (Lyne) had had to come back to live and work there, where her heart felt happiest. Our breakfast the next morning was included and we could have chosen any of the meals on the menu. We were sad to leave such warmth and charm and lovely food, all right by the river. The Auberge also has a Terrasse, a Bar Salon, a Reception hall, and pool. They also do catering. They are two minutes from the ferry to Ile au Coudre.
