Just had two nights at the Royal. Absolutely splendid. Accommodation spacious and comfortable, food (dinner and breakfast) delicious - quality ingredients beautiful cooked, service efficient and friendly. Will return and highly recommend to anyone.

We live locally and occassionally think, "a lets give it a go", and always end up thinking, "what a waste". The ambience can best be described as down market, not bother with for sometime. There is no atmosphere in the bar ir restaurant. The staff are bored and uninterested and the foid is a super representation of ll that I have just said. Don't waste your money there are far nicer places steps away. Even the only chain restaurant in Blair gives better quality.

went for a meal tonight, cannot fault it, it was beautiful & really hot & fresh. Just what you want when you go out for a meal. service was slow but we didn't mind as it was really worth waiting for, now I have to be negative
Now for the staff, one man in particular. sorry but if thats the attitude we wont be back. I had to take a call re a sick baby & he said "we need a notice like the post office to say we dont talk to customers on phones" he got his answer. I am not rude, there is nothing worse than seeing someone in a resturant on a phone, but this was an emergency call, no need for the sarcastic comment from the waiter. not the first time we have experienced unhelpful staff. pity its bringing the place down.

Well the staff were friendly, helpful and did their jobs, but my room (one of the cheapest) had seen better days! The furniture was mismatched, the wallpaper peeling and the paint battered. There was an 'interesting' selection of hangers (from various stores and dry cleaners), but at least the bed was OK, the towels fine and the hot water worked. Sadly the heating broke down though. Breakfast was good and the bar a sociable place for a drink, but the (free) WiFi couldn't reach my room! There's free parking, but probably not enough if the hotel was full.

The Hotel receives a regular coach trip of foreign tourists - its hard to know what they make of a rundown hotel in rural Scotland, but they can be noisy and the walls are thin. You have been warned!

For what we paid its unfair to complain (I paid twice as much for room in an hotel further up the Glen which was no better overall) but even so it might have been wiser to pay a bit more and have a superior room next time.

So, as long as you are aware its cheap and your expectations are adjusted accordingly The Royal isn't bad - its certainly not 'Good', but for a night or two it might be what you need - provided the coach party isn't making too much noise! I'd go back if I needed to, but I wouldn't be looking forward to it!

Mark

Room Tip: Try a superior room if you can and ask to be as far away from the coach party as possible!

Booked after staying there last year for a short golfing trip with eight in the party. Wasn't very good last year and has not improved. No hot water on arrival, or indeed till next day and then only for a short while to some of our rooms and then none the day after. A TV that pixilated badly but that didn't matter because there was no sound anyway. No teaspoons with the tea tray. A couple of dirty looking marks in the corners of the showers. The room door would not lock easily, what a bother so we pretty much gave up on that. The bar ran out of draught lager on our second night. The bar hours were advertised as open until 23:30, but as last year not a chance. The doors are locked at goodness knows what time, certainly before 22:30 and it's not easy to get the guy to come down and open the door. On arriving back we found the car park closed, understandably due to some building work but it would have been better to advise us and as to where we could park. The bar finishings are worth a look, Dado rails out of kilter and full of screw heads, skirting looks like an after thought, and an electric heater with one leg poor thing. Just too many things that the management need to address before we could recommend this hotel to anyone. Certainly would not do so at this time. On a positive note the hotel serves a decent breakfast with constant reminders to ask for more tea, coffee and toast if needed. On our first day we were served by a very cheerful and helpful girl who should be complimented on her attitude.

Room Tip: Can't help here, we had the "executive rooms" mmmmm!

Stayed here for the Yomp, for a few nights actually checked out early as my own house much more comfy.
Had rooms in the annex part, which are very basic indeed but it was clean.
Was actually out of the hotel for the most part but the customer service was hit and miss. They weren't too happy with people coming in late from the Yomp, was the impression I got although most other guests were Yompers.
I'd say overpriced for the standard of room but then this may be their busiest time.
The breakfast was average, not much choice and buffet was sparse..had to ask for eggs as none there.
The upside was a waiter who was there at breakfast, who was harassed looking and muttering alot to himself, he was not impressed when we seated ourselves at a laid table and made us move and wait, that said he actually made breakfast entertaining. The most character this hotel had. A shame as it's in a good location and a revamp really would do it a world of good.
