I only spent one night here but I was most impressed with the cleanliness of the room I was in. The hotel is under new management and it shows. It seems to have been redecorated throughout, very clean and with original artwork or interesting prints all over the place. Close to the town centre but far enough away to be very quiet, only a 15 minute walk to the harbour. The Coast Path is very close-by. An 'honesty bar' is a nice touch, pub-looking, with dartboard, a good selection of drinks at very reasonable prices - just write down your room number and what you've had and settle up the next morning as you check out - perfect! Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, with plenty of choices. It is quite tucked-away so my satnav proved quite useful! The only thing to be aware of is the shared road leading to the hotel, which is quite lumpy and with some potholes - probably not suitable if you have a Lamborghini!

Room tip: My first floor room (5) was very quiet and had a good view.

Stayed here overnight during a recent business trip.

The lady who runs the place (Alison?) gave a very warm welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she gave valuable information about the local area. She was also honest about a small fault in the shower room - credit to her for pointing it out. Price is reasonable and includes a hearty breakfast. Room was also spotless.

However, this place needs a make over as the decor and furnishings are dated. The location is quiet but you need to drive up a poorly maintained track to get there. It’s quite a steep walk from the main town area.

Overall, the price reflects what you get and if you want a warm welcome, basic but clean accommodation then this is the place for you.

I have stayed in this guesthouse 3 times before and it was ok. It's in a great location and if it's peace and quiet that you're after then this is it. I booked again for one night for September 13th this year and found that it has changed hands. Alison took over the business earlier this year and she has made many improvements and it was a delight to stay there. Nothing was too much trouble and I have to say that Alison is a wonderful person, very happy and extremely helpful. The breakfast was also one of the best that I've had in all my years. Highly recommended.

Alison, the owner, was very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The breakfasts were lovely and you could choose to vary the options available. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable, and the quiet location meant undisturbed sleep. The location was within walking distance of the town centre and there was free parking on site. Overall, I would recommend Avoncourt as a place to stay.

Booked for 2 nights as attending a wedding at the nearby tunnels venue , warmly greated by the excellent host - showed me to the room which was allocated on the 1st floor with balcony - room was compact but with all the creature comforts , tea coffee and toiletries
The location was great overlooking the quaint town / approx 5 mins walk
Breakfast compromised of full English and selection of cereals accompanied with good old mug / pot and tea / coffee
Decor was in need of an update but service and location made up for this great value for money
