We chose this hotel for the parking and because we had stayed there before several years ago. However, they have recently refurbished the hotel and it is to a very high standard. The lounge area was bright and airy with nice chesterfield suites dotted about in lovely shades of blue. The dining room was also bright and we could choose where we sat. We only had breakfast but it was nicely cooked and there was an extensive choice on the menu. We didn’t have our evening meals there as we thought it was a bit pricey. Although, I think I read that there was a discount if we booked B,B &D. The room we were given was at the front of the hotel. It has been upgraded and refurbished. The wardrobe was small and half was taken up with a fridge, which had 2 complimentary bottles of water, a safe and the tea making facilities. The bathroom was very nice and tastefully tiled. The bathroom and bedroom were rather small but as we were only stopping for a couple of nights it didn’t really matter. Hubby was worried about knocking into the TV on the wall but as it turned out it was me that bumped into it a couple of times. The rooms were clean and the bed was quite comfy so that helped. The staff were really warm and friendly and keen to ensure that we had a good break. All in all very good value for money and nice to see that these old hotels can be upgraded.

We have had an amazing long weekend at The Carlton Hotel Ilfracombe.
The rooms are immaculate and beautiful appointed.
Elliot the co-owner and chef produces excellent food from local suppliers which should be Michelin starred!
All the staff are professional, friendly and go above and beyond to provide exceptional service. Nick and Natasha deserve a special mention for attention to detail and service.
They have gun safes so our shotguns can be stored safely for the duration of our stay.
They are a pet friendly establishment.
The hotel kindly donated a bottle of champagne for most improved shot, which was presented by Natasha and some Devon crafted lagers and beers for the 3 man flush winners.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as the best place to stay in Ilfracombe.
Thank you to Michael, Elliot and all the staff for looking after us exceptionally well.

We stayed with our dog and were delighted with the Carlton. Room 203 had recently been refurbished and whilst on the small side it was well kitted out, had a large comfortable bed, good linen and a spotlessly clean bathroom. The hotel staff were excellent, they all smiled and engaged in a friendly but professional manner. Nick, who looked after us at checkin, for dinner and breakfast, was exceptional. Receptionists Michelle and Natasha were also very helpful in terms of aiding with our walk planning. Dinner was tasty and freshly prepared, breakfast was of good quality. I would be delighted to stay here again. A really great young team who are making this hotel stand out from the crowd.

Thank you for the great review and feedback on the hotel and in particular our wonderful teams performance. Equally we are pleased you enjoyed both breakfast (always included) and dinner (for a small supplement) meals. Look forward to your return to North Devon.

We live in Ilfracombe and occasionally go to The Carlton Hotel for lunch or dinner, as a couple or with friends or family.
It would be difficult to find a friendlier more welcoming hotel. The proprietors and staff are lovely.
The food is good, they have an interesting and varied menu. On Friday my husband and I booked a table for Steak Night. The Carlton has some ‘special’Friday nights in the restaurant, it’s worth looking out for them.
I’m a vegetarian and had a delicious dinner.
Nothing is too much trouble. They also welcome dogs which is very good, not least for people on holiday with their four legged friends.
The Carlton Hotel is a very nice place indeed.

Our wedding reception this weekend was perfect. We had a Blessing in the Burlesque Room, the wedding breakfast on the stage, and then back to the Burlesque for the evening. Everyone commented on how delicious the food was, how excellent the staff were. Unfortunately one of our guests became ill and she has told me that the staff looked after her in a very efficient and caring way. They also kept the problem away from me, the bride. It was also very good value. Our sincere thanks to all, Eliot, Michael, Nick, Dawn and Sue.
