“good value nice products”
Reviewed 22 May 2007

I found this Hotel through trip advisor and was pleased with my choice. I booked a single room and got one even though the hotel was not full. Although the room was small the bathroom was not. All the staff were friendly in a real (rather than a trained) way. The room had nice bathroom products and decent tea bags. The bathroom was slightly worn looking but clean and the hot water in both bath and shower was plentiful and fast. Breakfast was plentiful with the usual choices. The car park was big and easy to find. I had the mid week rate and thought it was good value for money (much better than the next hotel I stayed in). I would recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel on a business trip.

Basically a nice hotel in a central location, and the public areas are reasonably well presented, particularly the newer front resturant and bar area facing onto the street.
However, the disappointment is in the bedrooms (in my opinion the most important aspect of any hotel). The room we had does need a renovation. I appreciate that few hotel rooms will be perfect as they would not make any money if continually being re decorated every five minutes.
Despite this, there is no excuse for poor maintenance and in our case the sink was clearly blocked with hair and debris making a very slow drain (this has obviously been like it for some considerable time) and the toilet seat needed replacement, thumping down on your back when sitting on it. Also, the room was smaller than the photo on the web site lead you to believe.
Overall, not bad, but not the best value for money I've received and I would not be visiting again.

We stayed at The Angel for two nights in January. It is perfectly situated to explore The Weald and the Sussex Downs. As a bonus, there is a large car park right next to it and it's free.

The room (we chose a "superior" one) was cosy and comfortable, perhaps a bit on the small side but with a lovely view. All in all it was very clean apart from the bathroom floor which does not seem to get hoovered every day...

We had dinner at the hotels' restaurant "Halo Bar Bistro" on both nights and were pleasantly surprised. Nice food, good wine list and friendly service at a reasonable price. The breakfast was fine as well with two very efficient and nice ladies runnig it like clockwork.

One piece of advice though: We stayed Saturday and Sunday with Sunday-Thursday being advertised on their website at a special rate in the low season. However, at check out out we were charged the full rate for both nights. When querying this with the receptionist we were told we did not "especially ask for this rate and it is subject to availability anyway". I found this very odd (the hotel was certainly NOT fully booked) but did not start an argument. Instead I checked my facts when I got home, was dissatisfied with the receptionists excuses and rang the hotel the next day to complain. We received an apology and the money was refunded to us.

Despite this little incident I would stay at The Angel again anytime. But next time confirm the rates in writing...

The Angel is a lovely little hotel in the centre of Midhurst. I stayed here with my husband in the lead up to our wedding and my only complaint was that the bathroom ceiling was so low that the shower-head was in the perfect place for me to bash my head every time (I probably should have learned, admittedly!)... and it did suffer from that classic English problem of low water pressure so the dribble was barely worth getting headaches for!

The room we had was at the front of the hotel overlooking North Street (the main street) and had a really nice feel to it - a reasonably sized bed (4 poster) and a little sitting room. We had booked into the honeymoon suite for the night after our wedding so we got to see that too and it was lovely (though we didn't end up staying there, much to our regret). Some of the rooms are on the small side, so it is worth looking at which one you'd get before you book - but upgrading to a bigger room here is still cheaper than the alternatives in Midhurst, and probably worth doing. Breakfast was ok - service was a little slow - but the staff were friendly and the reception desk was efficient which is always a bonus! The garden at the back is a lovely extra.

All in all, not stellar, but a solid performance from the Angel.

we stayed at the angel hotel for valentines day. being students, we couldn't afford to be too extravagant, so this was a nice affordable option. the room was fairly small, but nice, with a well sized double bed, tv and ensuite bathroom. it had a homely feel. we chose to go out for dinner in the evening. we recommend prezzos just round the corner. midhurt itself is a lovely town. it was a nice quiet stay and the price probably reflected the hotel. nothing special but we would be happy to return.

For the price, we found the hotel very good. The standard room was clean, comfortable and had the added benefit of a dressing area. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was superb. Would thoroughly recommend the hotel which is convenient for Petworth and Uppark National Trust properties.

Stayed for a Saturday night and found the hotel to be welcoming with a massive and comfortable bed. Slept soundly despite being in a room overlooking the main hight street in Midhurst.

Potential is tremendous, but whilst decor has no doubt previously projected a 'quality' feel it is now looking somewhat tired, with carpets which need a good clean or replacement, particularly in the public areas (room carpet was perfectly ok)and paintwork which could do with a freshening coat.

Corridors a little doggy smelling and main sitting area next to reception smelt very smokey.

Will definetley use this as a weekender in the future but will be delighted to arrive one day to find fresh paintwork, newly laid or clean carpets in the public areas and a total smoking / dog ban. That will make it special.
