“Six star accommodation in North Yorkshire - a really special place to stay”
Reviewed April 7, 2012 for a stay in April 2012

This is the perfect place to relax. The accommodation is spotless and the careful attention to detail in decorating and organising it means that you will have everything you will need. The beds are beyond comfortable with the sort of sheets (scented?) that have forced me to go shopping for new linen as soon as I got home. As if by magic logs for the wood burning fire appear in the basket every day (although this might be Ben?) The surroundings are beautiful with ample opportunity for walking or strolling. So far so five star so Sawdays, but the things that makes me give Cropton Forest Lodge a six star review cannot be measured by The English Tourist Board, namely Sue and Ben. What follows is a personal story and recommendation from the heart. We had unseasonable snow during our stay which would have been a minor inconvenience and a chance to attack a board game had it not been for me going down that very day with suspected mumps. Ben personally led us down the road in his car, pushing our's out of the snow when it got stuck and would have taken me himself to the doctors in Pickering if necessary. Sue, ever so sensitively, took the time to listen to my partner's mother during a much needed break from caring for his father. This is a lovely place on the surface but it is the genuine warmth of Ben and Sue that make it an exceptional place. My only, rather selfish, fear is that in reading this you will book the week that we want next time we wish to return.

“Fabulous accommodation, well appointed, immaculate & comfortable.”
Reviewed March 20, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

My husband and I spent an early March weekend there with two of our friends, another couple. All of us were amazed at just how wonderful this place is & how guests' every comfort has been taken thoughtfully into consideration. We could not have asked for any better accommodation. It is definitely secluded and really felt like we were out in the wilds & away from urban life. As it happened we had an all four-seasons weekend whilst there, and the wood burning stove was so cozy when it turned cold. Would love to go back again sometime, maybe in the summer. Rambling and wildlife begin right at the doorstep. Just fabulous! Highly recommend.

“Special cosy cottages in an enchanted forest”
Reviewed February 5, 2012 for a stay in December 2011

The dilemmas of recommending a special place like Cropton Forest Lodge Cottages is that the next time you want to come back, it may have been 'discovered' - and you won't be able to get in! Fortunately these special cosy cottages are not for everyone. They are not for those who prefer a short stroll to the local pub or shops, for those want to stay in a bustling town or village, or if you have children under ten. However if your idea of a perfect holiday is to step straight out of your door into an enchanted forest (think Harry P) or enjoy the wonderful peace of a remote location hidden in the woods with a cosy logburner, then these cottages come very highly recommended. Fortunately too, there are several cottages to choose from, each with its own character and each beautifully designed and kept by Sue and Ben. The care and attention to detail that has gone into the cottages is far beyond many holiday rentals, hence the well-deserved five-star status. The Cropton Forest Lodge cottages are perfectly placed to explore the diverse scenery and wonders of this part of Yorkshire - we even discovered 'our own' moor, wonderfully quiet in crisp December weather. Many many thanks to Sue and Ben for creating this special retreat. We hope to come back again and see the forest in the changing seasons.

“Top Quality cottages, Peaceful location.”
Reviewed January 27, 2012 for a stay in January 2012

We booked Willows End cottage last minute for a few days break on the strength of the reviews on tripadvisor. The cottages are in a remote location but well signed from the main road. The location is wonderfully peaceful in the middle of forests and open countryside.
The quality of the cottage we had was top notch. Quality kitchen with everything you need. A very comfortable sitting room with log burner and plenty of logs available, flatscreen tv with home cinema system. Large comfy bed and great bathroom with good shower.
There are lots of reference books, maps, dvd,s and games available in the very useful boot room where you can also leave your boots and wet coats etc if you have been walking in the wet.
We were made extremly welcome by the owners, Sue and Ben, who have obviosly worked very hard to create 4 cottages of very high quality. The attention to detail is clear throughout the site.
There are numerous walks from the doorstep and Ben is very knowledgeable about the local area and can point you in the direction of local places to see. It snowed on the morning of our departure and Ben was out clearing the car park and clearing the car windows for us as we loaded up the car!!
We cannot recommend this place highly enough and have already booked a few more days for a birthday treat.

“A wonderful hidden gem of a place”
Reviewed November 1, 2011 for a stay in October 2011

I stayed at the Meadows Edge cottage in October with my wife and her parents.
We were looking for a luxury cottage hideaway in close proximity to the village of Pickering as we were going to see the War Weekend events at Pickering and the surrounding villages.

All I can say about Meadows Edge is that it was everything we had wished for and more than we had hoped.
The cottage is immaculate and clean.
All the amenities you could ask for were present.
The cottage is quiet, warm and cosy and we loved having the wood burner going in the evenings after a long day out.
The cottage is set in the forest and has amazing scenery around it.
Although I regret not exploring the forest around the cottage we did see many pheasants and some wild deer nearby.
At night time we also heard the sound of owls.

Occasionally you come across a little gem of a place and this is it.

My thanks to Ben and Sue for looking after us before and during out stay.
I look forward to returning again soon.

“A wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed June 3, 2011 for a stay in May 2011

We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. Ben and Sue could not have done more to welcome us. The lounge is a great place to relax, and the accomodation excellent and one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed at.
This is truly a 5 star place to stay.

“Off the beaten track amidst the wild beauty of the North York. Moors”
Reviewed February 25, 2011 for a stay in February 2011

If you want to escape from it all and stay somewhere off the beaten track, Cropton Forest Lodge Cottages is the perfect place. Tucked away amidst the raw beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors, these 5* link cottages provide the high standards of a hotel (complete with all those nice complimentary touches) with the flexibility of self catering.
Unlike the gloomy February weather, our congenial hosts, Sue and Ben welcomed us warmly. From the reservation through to our stay the booking process was efficient and helpful with plenty of suggestions for things to do in the area and places to eat. We filled our days easily – a day at Eden Camp, a day’s walking from the doorstep on the Moors to Hole of Horcum including a trip on the N.Y.M Railway and a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum on our last day. Cropton Forest Lodge was an ideal base to come back to after busy days with its lovely log burning stove and comfy sofas.
Whilst this cottage is not available to families with young children, do not let this dissuade you from visiting this beautiful, serene and peaceful region. We hope to come back. Many thanks.
