This attractive country house hotel has an impressive facade and overlooks well tended lawns. We were not so impressed with the car park to the rear which is shared with a used car sales pitch.

However, on entering the hotel and being warmly greeted, we felt we had made a good choice. This is a building of character that retains much of its charm and has a welcoming feel to it.

Our bedroom was a little dated but clean and very cosy, with a comfortable king size bed and a good flat screen TV as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was small (just a shower: no bath) but, again, was clean and served its purpose. Wifi in the bedrooms is free, secure and reasonably fast. The view from our window, overlooking some cottages and farm buildings was not very attractive but we were quite content with the room itself.

Dinner in a small wood panelled dining room was from the set menu which changes monthly and offers a reasonable choice. The food was nicely presented, tasty and left us satisfied. I thought the cooked breakfast was even better: freshly cooked, hot and hearty, it was as good as any I have tasted.

The price we paid on a Groupon deal was excellent value for money and I would have given Hardwick Hall Manor a full five stars if the car park and the view from the room had been a bit more attractive. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay and would return without any hesitation, perhaps paying for a room upgrade.

Hello Lancestrian,

Thank you for your review we really appreciate it. I agree with your comments regarding the car park however as we are listed building and not only surrounded by "ancient woodland, along with an otter reserve 500 meters down towards the dean.

We are how shall I say this in discussion with Durham County Council on how we can improve the car park . As currently we are not allowed to do anything to the car park.

Once again thank you and I hope to see you back with us shortly.

With Warmest regards
Mark

My son and daughter in law have just had their wedding here .. what a stunning location and 1st class service. Mark and his team made sure everything was perfect for us and couldn’t do enough to make sure the day met our expectations. Food excellent, service excellent , staff all friendly and made sure nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend this venue for anyone, Mark and his team are on hand always and certainly put the hours in to make everything special.

Tried to book for two nights for my wife and I using two Groupon vouchers, each for one night Dinner, Bed & Breakfast Groupon vouchers but hotel refused two consecutive nights using vouchers. Clearly they have more business than they need !

Hello Patrick,

On the contrary we do want your business however groupon is designed as a marketing tool to introduce customers to our hotel. On that note we have given a very heavily discounted price for customers to visit us for a 1 night stay under groupon . That is why we have a 1 night deal and not a two night deal. Now if a customers wants a two night deal they are able to take advantage of the groupon 1 night deal and then if you require a second night to be charged a fair rack rate. It also states on the deal that offers can cannot be combined consecutively . Surely that is fair and a reasonable offer but clearly you take umbrage at this and want to take advantage .

With regards
Mark Wilkinson
