Organised chaos - when we booked we were told to get there early as there were activities before the tea started so we got there just after 2pm and tea started at 3pm - the only activity was colouring in although there was a pin the tail on the rabbit set up but no-one to supervise - not enough tables for all the children to colour in either - we eventually went into tea at 3.20pm - the room was lovely but compliments end there - my grandson was given a box which held an apple a sandwich a jelly and a biscuit -£10.75 for that - oh and a £1 easter egg - the adults tea had fish paste sandwiches in it - really!! - for £15 - absolute disgrace - face painting took place in the room where we had our tea so no-one could get moved - it was a complete disaster - I appreciate the bouncy castle coudn't go up because oh the weather but surely they could have done something to keep the kids entertained - never again

Hello Sorrel2,
Please accept my apologies that you did not enjoy your day. We have had some amazing feedback for the Mad Hatters tea party. In fact there are some great comments on the very page I am writing back to you on. About our Mad Hatters afternoon tea. We have a member of staff who was working on the Mad Hatters Afternoon tea who has a very serious fish allergy to the fact that when she is working there is never any fish on in any of our sandwich fillings.

The adult tea stand consisted of Honey Roast Ham, Chicken Mayonnaise,Cheese Savoury & Egg Mayonnaise sandwiches, fruit scones with jam & cream, Hot cross buns, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate eclair's and raspberry meringues with as much tea & coffee as you could drink. The children's fun box contained a ham sandwich,a fruit jelly, packet of crisps, Easter biscuit & a piece of fruit along with as much orange squash as required. Also a chocolate Easter Egg from the Easter Bunny. The games in the bistros were pin the tail, Colouring Stations,Stack the cards ( with giant playing cards) throw the ping pong ball into tea cups, As it was raining then the bouncy castle could not go up on the lawns and the games planned for outside also could not be done.
Again my apologies that you did not enjoy your day.

This themed Easter Celebration open to the public was exceptionally well organised
The staff were brilliant and attentive to all the needs of the children and adults, the tables centres and the fairy lighting was amazing the children’s face as well as ours was jaw dropping as the fantasy door was opened. I have been here at the Hardwick lots of times the food is excellent always hot and tasty and presentation is first class. The Hotel has character I have stayed a few times in different rooms each one been a different lay out that adds to the character of the building.
Always greeted and served by the amazing staff who can not do enough for you if you ever in the North East and looking for some were to stay give The Hardwick Manor Hotel Hartlepool a try you won’t be disappointed

We received a voucher as a Christmas gift for a four course meal with coffee and mints and although we were a couple of weeks outside of the voucher expiry date the hotel restaurant kindly still let us use it.

From the outside the hotel looks pleasant, we were a bit confused as we drove round the back to park and it seems to share the car park with a car parts / service garage.

It’s a little dark in the reception area but a lovely wood burning fire meant the place was warm at least. We were told to head
To the lounge/bar area where the drinks menus seemed to be stuck under a glass table. The ‘apple and raspberry tonic’ for the g&t was actually a j20 which was odd but we still remained positive.

Unfortunately the food and service really let it down. Hate to sound rude but the food looked and tasted VERY cheap. Soup from a can? Mains were over cooked chicken and fish with watery sauce and an even more watery side of veg. There was only one other couple in the room with us and no servers so we sat with dirty plates for what felt like 15-20 minutes before we had to ask someone to clear the table. When we asked about desert we were told to go next door which just had a table full of (I’m assuming) shop bought cakes etc.

We didn’t stay for coffee or the mints and as we paid and said our thanksyous and goodbyes at the front desk we were completely ignored by the two people there.

Overall I think even tho the place is in need of some TLC, simply improving the food and service would be a small step in the right direction. If it wasn’t for the voucher I would not have been happy to pay.

We visited today for a carvery lunch. The food was lovely and fresh and plentiful. The staff were friendly and polite. it was cheaper than Toby Carvery and much, much nicer. The surroundings are very pretty.
