Stayed with my husband for 2 nights for the last of the 6 nations rugby games March 17th 2012 .Although the rooms were a bit outdated it suited our needs. Staff cheerful and friendly especially the ladies serving breakfast. Lovely sea view room with balcony however it could do with a lick of paint but spotless clean. Will def book there again

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room with balcony if possible on a warm day its a sun trap

I stayed at the royal hotel on a business trip , and first impressions were very good , and old rather grand looking building , in need of a little tlc but still a loverly old style hotel with a really nice feel. My room was a little on the small side , but still ticked all the boxes , ensuite with a decent shower , tea & coffee , a desk and a comfy single bed. the tv was a little on the small side but the sea view ( yes i could see the sea ) more than made up for the tv's size.
the bar was well stocked and i could not fault the staff, very helpfull. a good choice for breakfast and great location next to the winter gardens completes the picture. dont expect a modern hotel if you book here , it's a hotel that's been lost in a time warp.....and that's not a bad thing. I would book this hotel again when i next stay in western-super-mare.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

Booked in last minute-good sized room-could see the old splendour still there-beautiful windows/plaster work! Shame these hotels arent refurbished a little more thoughtfully but imagine the current owners were met with these changes when they bought? If you are traveling alone the room is large and well priced! Breakfast in the basement (why?? no lovely views which the bars have!) was sufficient-staff nice. Popular with older guests and workmen in area it seems? Sadly due to room splits from old huge rooms the walls are now thin so you hear all the TV's and loo's/showers which meant a late night and early morning 'wake ip call' at 5am! )-:
On the upside-... The setting couldnt be better-views of sea and pier. The building is lovely. Staff are friendly and most seem to have worked there for many a year!
Suggest they offer a 'room' rate for couples and/or single parents to encourage more varied a guest and perhaps a 'BOGOF' or longer stay offers for guests other than singles?!
All in all good value...... a well deserved pat on the back for the owners (mum/daughter) - its a huge place to run (and just about to add new rooms from the purchase of 2 end buildings) they are to be congratulated for taking this on and making a good go of it! Well done! (-;

Room Tip: Ask for sea view/balcony!

Just returned from a lovely weekend. Clean and well maintained. Staff were very helpful and freindly. Check in was quick and simple, room had a lovely sea view. Breakfast was adiquate but great value. My only complain was the showers, no presure but i understand they are being updated.

We also frequented the bar. I live in London and was amazed that a round of drinks can still be as cheap as this. Views are lovely from the bar/garden.

All in all a great hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view on booking.

We have stayed at the Royal Grosvenor a few times now and we always go back because of the value for money, clean rooms and friendly staff.
If it wasn't for the famous Weston wind overnight, our stay would have been perfect.

My friend and I have lived in Weston super Mare all our lives, and worked in busy establishments both in and out of season!
We came to the Royal Grosvenor to sit outside with refreshment, for a good few hours.
When we arrived there were a couple of people at the reception desk and my friend said the woman working there gave her a 'filthy look'. We walked to the bar and waited a little while and then went to sit in the garden whilst we waited for service. I took a position in front of the opening so we could be seen. Although one would think the member of staff would want to find where two strangers had gone. No other customers arrived at reception although there was a painter (or workman anyway) whom the staff member seemed only to glad to take up her time.
Eventually I went in and the staff member was behold the till fiddling about and when I spoke to her did not even raise her head let alone look at me, she remaind CHEWING and gave a half nod. When I said we had been waiting so long now we were going, she was still chewing and still did not raise her head to make any kind of contact. No apology, no acknowledgement at all. Just RUDE. I have worked for Greek Cypriots on the sea front so You know I understand the meaning of hard work. And was asked back year after year and kept on longer than the duration of the season.
I am not a serial complainer but this rude woman incensed me so.

We were in Weston for a wedding so opted to spend an extra night so checked in to the Royal Grosvenor for two nights - what a mistake! The hotel is very like Weston Super Mare - a bit grubby and has seen better days. The entrance is beside the rubbish bins from the kitchen so you are greeted with large economy baked bean tins and rubbish bags which have been pecked through by seagulls. The reception is full of signs telling you what you can't do and cluttered with mobility scooters - a theme which continues in the lift, bedrooms and thoughout the hotel. Our saving grace was gettng a room with a balcony and sea view which was nice - again a bit like Weston the sea view enabled you to put the town and hotel behind you. At breakfast many of the tables were reserved for "residents" - it appears that the hotel in times of recession also doubles up as some kind of residency for older residents. I wouldn't recommend the hotel but then in many ways it was like Weston, which I would also not recommend - nice pier yes but that's about all it has to offer other than tattoo parlours and fish & chip shops. If a tacky seaside resort which had its hayday in the 70s is your type of thing then the hotel might be the place for you.

Room Tip: you must get a room with a balcomy and sea view.
