This cottage did not live up to Coast & Country Cottages' philosophy of "highest quality" and "a better class of property". Here's why:
Advertised as with Wi-Fi but none offered
Had to pay the Standing Charge!! for electric
No wood supplied for burner
Mouldy walls in bathroom
Toilet not fixed properly to the floor
Only 1 toilet roll
Sparingly equipped kitchen
Used washing up sponge and brush
Generally tired e.g. furniture, cottage info file, bathroom, cooker, odd crockery etc.
Shortly after we arrived, the owners came over to explain the heating and seemed surprised when we asked for the Wi-Fi password. I felt like I'd asked them for something personal and felt it necessary to explain that the booking website states that the cottage comes with Wi-Fi (this had been a critical condition of us booking this particular cottage). The owners seemed genuinely surprised and said it should not have been advertised but, to their credit, told us that their son would look up the password for their own Wi-Fi and bring it over, albeit we were told very emphatically that Wi-Fi would not be guaranteed.
There was a small welcome pack of a pint of semi-skimmed milk and a couple of Trevgroes waffles on the table, along with a couple of teabags and coffee sachets and a few sachets of sugar.
You pay for electric and gas and it was made clear on the website so I didn't mind. However, I was shocked that not only do you pay for your usage but also the standing charge for each day you're there!
Actually, everything in this cottage felt penny pinched. There was just 1 loo roll and the only washing up sponge and brush were clearly already well used. A few pence spent on a fresh jay cloth/brush/sponge would give a much better impression. There was some Fairy washing up liquid and a (partially used) pump bottle of hand soap in the bathroom but there was nothing provided for the fire Even though the wood burner is advertised, I'm not sure it was for use as there was a pot plant on it. There is a DVD player and you will need to bring your own viewing if you want to use this. TV channels are limited.
The location is great, the owners were very friendly and the comments book was full of lovely write ups by visitors, many of whom it seems return to stay at Jemima's cottage repeatedly. I might have been happier with the cottage had my expectations been more realistic. The booking agent needs to re-think its marketing of this cottage!
