“A must visit for sculpture lovers”

Rodin Sculpture Garden

This garden definitely adds to the rich culture of Stanford & definitely a must visit for Rodin lovers. This is free and you should spend time to explore the statues . If anyone has ever visited University of Viswa Bharati @ Shanitiketan , India , you can draw parallels of similar display you see there by Ramkinkar Baij. Rodin is amazing , the gate of hell is a must watch. This one must be the replica . The plaster original was restored in 1917 and is displayed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris .

It's nice to see this large collection of Rodin sculptures outdoors, right outside the Cantor, in dialogue with the open space, people, nature and surrounding buildings. At the same time, it is strongly recommended to step inside the museum and explore the collections.

This collection, the best in the US, is laid out so very nicely for all to enjoy. The garden has the one instance of Rodin’s gates of hell in the US. And the other pieces are laid out in a green setting that invites leisurely contemplation.
