“Beautiful & homely”
Reviewed August 10, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

This is a beautiful place for a retreat, all you need is provided in the cottage. Great beaches close by and peaceful surroundings. On our visit enough of a breeze to keep the midges away but sunny & warm enough to venture into the sea! We were able to take our dog which was an added bonus as she loved the beach - there is even a dog towel provided. I would say take your basic starter food with you as Thurso is a 40 min drive to a supermarket however there are a couple of store in Bettyhill which provide all you need.

“Brilliant cottage, beautiful place!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My wife, myself and two (uni student) children stayed here for two weeks - there was plenty of room (including a settee and armchair in the kitchen, so room to spread!) The cottage is really well equipped, including lots of books and a good selection of games. There is also an interesting history of the cottage, and lots of other historical/ activity information. It takes about 10 mins to walk to the little beach/harbour. Lots of walks in the area, and an excellent museum in nearby Bettyhill. Also good choice of places to eat out. We just wish we could have stayed longer!

“perfect and cozy in every way !!!”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

stayed in this beautiful cottage over christmas. Despite the storms we felt very cozy and safe with the roaring victorian open fire. the cottage has everything we needed to cook our christmas dinner. we had lots of fun making use of the board games on days of bad weather. our teen girls where very grateful for the wifi. the sleepy village of kirtomy has beautiful views of the sea which i could see from the kitchen window. there is useful information in the cottage on many walks in the area . we did a short walk to kirtomy harbour ,and went to farr bay which is a lovely beach. we would like to return here and see it in the summer, with more daylight hours. thanks caroline :)

“Amazing views from a cosy cottage in one of the most stunning parts of the world.”
Reviewed November 24, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

A warm, cosy cottage providing all the home from home comforts you could wish for for a weeks holiday. We enjoyed plenty of walks either right on the doorstep, or a short car ride away. We really enjoyed visiting the Bettyhill museum and the beautiful sandy beach behind it, Castle Varrich with it's beautiful views and the boggy moors walk at the RSPB in Forsinard. The cottage has everything you need after a long day out, cosy fires and comfy sofas. It even has plenty to do if you fancy a quiet day in, games, books and dvds. We hope to return one day soon to Ceol-na-Mara, we had a wonderful time.

“A beautiful cottage in one of the most beautiful parts of the world”
Reviewed November 24, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

The cottage is bigger and even cosier than the pictures suggest. We stayed for a week and wished we could have stayed for longer. This is clearly a well loved cottage and is kept warm, clean and very homely. There are beautiful views from the house of Kirtomy and the rugged coast. The North Highlands are fascinating to explore with some good HIghland pub grub available after a days hiking. I can't wait to return.

“A cosy original Highland croft house to explore the wild north from.”
Reviewed November 22, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

If you enjoy wild open landscapes and deserted beaches with rolling waves then you'll be in your element here. Its a great base for exploration or simply retreat and relaxation, protected from the elements by deep stone walls and warmed by open fires. Cosiness has been made a priority here in thoughtful restoration.

We were here in the Autumn when the grasses are golden and the skies change from moment to moment. Its a true haven for wildlife, a photographer's dream. Its worth bringing layers of warm clothing, waterproofs and a good pair of hiking boots to access mountains and places a bit off the beaten track. There's a folder in the kitchen full of advice on places to go and things to see. I can't wait to return and explore again.

“Beautiful views from this cosy cottage”
Reviewed May 14, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We would recommend this cottage , it was very comfortable & warm with everything you could want. Kirtomy is very quiet as you would expect but ideally situated for exploring the north coast & just walking out from your door. Could not fault it. If possible book a meal at Cote-du-nord, just across the valley as an experience & delight of unique cooking..
