Horrible Service

Review of Abaco Inn
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 18, 2022
I want to preface this review with out of the 8 people in our party- 7 of us have worked extensively in the restaurant business. We were never rude and did not feel we were asking for anything extensive.

We were down for a girls trip. We decided to make a reservation for dinner the first time we gave Abaco Inn a try. We never got our dinner. We waited 3+ hours on our dinner. We got some of our appetizers, but our server never checked on us or communicated the kitchen may have been backed up. We also sat with dry drinks. After 2 people in our party complained, with no solution to the problem. We decided to get our checks and leave. The server acted annoyed with us.

We understand that restaurants get in the weeds and not every night is going to be amazing. So we returned to give them a second chance. 3 people went for drinks and some apps. We ordered drinks and the appetizers were a Caesar salad, cocktail shrimp, and a caprese salad. It took an hour and a half. We had dinner plans in a different place. We went to the bar to ask about our food, and we were completely ignored. I went to Tom, the manager, to explain the problem. He was beyond rude. He raised his voice at me stating there were “80,000 people here” when the only area that had guests was the bar. He finally brought us our food. Then we went to leave after the food handoff, he said, “I guess I’ll clean this up myself.” We weren’t sitting at the cushioned area he was referring to.

This was completely disappointing considering the price of food and drinks. Two of our guests were considering getting married at the inn. They are now re-considering against since they saw first hand how horrible the manager and service was. Unless you want to wait forever for food and drinks and don’t mind being in trouble for asking, I would highly recommend you not give them your business.

We had a fabulous one night stay at Abaco Inn. We’ve stayed on Elbow Cay before and wanted to stay outside of Hopetown for this quick visit. Tom and his team couldn’t have been more accommodating to our early arrival and late departure. We wanted to make the most of our couple of days there.

The room was clean and the bed super comfortable. Lovely to sit on the patio and watch the ocean and chill.

Only not giving a full 5/5 rating as OH’s steak had to be sent back for our dinner on the Saturday evening. My rack of lamb was sublime. The bar snack lunch on Sunday was spot on 👍🏼.

We have no hesitation to go back the next time we have opportunity to.

We spent 4 nights here and loved every minute! The location is just amazing! Our cottage views: ocean in the front and bay in the rear. It was a very spacious and comfortable cottage with a small kitchenette and a comfortable sitting area. The bed was really comfy! We loved hearing the roar of the surf all night and it was awesome to wake up to as well. Fresh coffee available all morning. The manager, Tom, absolutely goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and to meet their wishes. He is so friendly and knows everyone on the island - he had great advice for restaurants and when to catch the ferry.

The restaurant is open air and really gorgeous views. The food is quite good. It is pricey but that is so be expected since everything has to be shipped in by boat.

Tom arranged for a rental golf cart and we drove all around the cay - it was always so fabulous to get back to our cottage and chill.

    we LOVED this place!

Room tip: No wifi in the rooms - just in the restaurant. All the better to relax and unwind!

Tom the manager has the most pleasant and efficient staff throughout the facility. Everybody volunteers to take that extra step for you. Food is simple but delicious and well prepared. Breakfast favorites are nicely cooked. We were there for a wedding which was so well serviced I would recommend Abaco Inn and its exquisite setting, overlooking the ocean and the bay on the other side, for weddings or reunions.

We just returned from a nine night stay at Abaco Inn, and I am still enjoying the "afterglow" of the visit! The setting is incredibly beautiful. I truly believe the location of the inn on White Sound is the most gorgeous location on this incredible island. I made our reservation about six weeks in advance when we had lunch at the inn during a boat stop. I met Tom, the manager, that day, and I knew it was a special place. I was correct. We had an oceanview villa and a bungalow room for our family, and we loved our accommodations! The beds in both room types were comfortable. The air conditioning worked gloriously well. The deck on the back of the villa had a lovely view of the sunset...every single day! And we even enjoyed relaxing on our front porch watching the world go by while we read our books. The bungalow was conveniently located right next to the restaurant, which made stumbling to breakfast and coffee especially easy! Our little family enjoyed the lily pad in the sound, the paddleboarding, the bar, the restaurant, the pool, and the location that was convenient to everything. Tom helped us get a golf cart before we even arrived, making access to everything on the island easy. When you visit, enjoy the views of the sound and the Atlantic...have a camera handy! Make dinner reservations for the restaurant in the morning to ensure your best seating time. Abaco Inn is a special place. If you want a giant resort with all the bells and whistles like a casino and 24-hour television, this is not the place for you. If you want a place to relax and enjoy a true Bahamian vibe in a quiet setting, this is the place for you. Get to know Tom, who knows everything and everyone in the area. You will hate to wave goodbye to this lovely inn, and you will want to make your reservation for your next stay right away.

Room tip: We loved our oceanview villa. It gives you the best of both worlds...views of the sound and the Atlantic.

So, I have waited 3 months to write this review so that I could reflect on our experience “out of the moment”. We have been blessed to go to many special places with our now teenage son. This is a very special experience in all regards.

The island is quaint and beautiful. It offers experiences ranging from a historical town to beautiful beaches all in a small package. The people all over the island are kind and welcoming. You just feel like you are visiting a great friend’s hometown. Yes, there is still significant hurricane damage on the island, but that makes the island and the people there even more remarkable. We enjoyed the same “island life/beach” vacation that you would hope for but were amazed at the beauty and the dedication of the rebuilding that is on the island and in the people. We were a little concerned we would get in their way or be a distraction, but that was not the case at all. They have completely turned the corner and they want and need you there.

The Abaco Inn is the symbol of all that beauty, rebirth and spirit all in one place. The location is ridiculous pretty! The property expands from ocean to sea, but is cozy and simply elegant at the same time. The Sullivans, Tom and every single staff person seriously make you feel like you are a guest in their home. The rooms, food and atmosphere are amazing, but the people are spectacular. I have to say that Tom, the GM, sets the service tone. I have never experienced this level of customer service that, at the same time, felt so honest and natural. I am just amazed that such a beautiful resort on the perfect island location is overshadowed by the people who own and run it.

Go for the beauty of the island. Stay here because of the people!

Room tip: Stay in the new villas for “extra” space and beautiful view!!!
