We were drawn to Royal House restaurant by a sign touting wi-fi (We had lots of problems with the free public wi-fi spot near the main entrance to the souk.) and expected just to duck inside for a cold drink and maybe a snack. The lovely 2-story interior with its cool air conditioning was a wonderful surprise. The menu looked good, with both Indian and local dishes, and we decided to stay. We chose Mandi (3.800 omr) and Chicken Biryani (2.800 omr) and enjoyed both, although the Biryani chicken could have used more seasoning. With a large Perrier, our total tab for lunch came out to 7.800 omr ($20.26 US). We lingered well after lunch to use the wi-fi and were never hurried or made to feel we'd overstayed our welcome. There's a nice outdoor terrace as well, facing the corniche, but of course, minus that wonderful air conditioning. I highly recommend this charming place!
