This hotel is in a superb location immediately adjacent to the pedestrian area where much of the evening outdoor entertainment takes place – from free concerts on the Friday evening (but with what seems to be a very early start of 5.00 pm), the weekend craft market with some high quality and very different items for sale and, of course, the usual buskers and human statues.

Although it is on the main road to Padua the hotel is extremely quiet and while our room was on the front of the hotel overlooking the town, we slept solidly with no disturbance whatsoever.

The hotel has two swimming pools (or three) depending on whether the one on the ground floor that is part inside and part outside the building is regarded as two, or is simply one with two parts. The other pool is on the fourth floor. The joy of both of them is that they are supplied with the thermal water after which the town of Abano Terme is named so it is an absolute pleasure to swim in such warm water. Oh, and there’s a Jacuzzi in the one on the ground floor.

The hotel has a large lounge in the foyer area with ample soft seating – and we were a group of 47 – with musical entertainment and dancing on some nights. There is also a small card room and another good size lounge with a television (mainly occupied by Italian guests watching football!).

Bedrooms and facilities were absolutely fine and were what was expected of a four star hotel.

I am afraid that the same cannot be said for the dining experience. The dining room is large and has tables for 2, 4 6 or 8 diners and it has to be said that it is impressive. Unfortunately it is the food that lets it down – or perhaps the lack of food may be a better way of putting it. On one night we had what was described as a Rustic Dinner where the entire meal was self collect from the various serveries. However after being given my plate of meat I asked where the potatoes were and was bluntly told ‘finito’. No apology was offered let alone an explanation nor was any alternative suggested. The hotel had simply run out of potatoes and that was that. I had to wait the arrival of our Italian travel manager and she had rather a strong word with the dining room staff and some sliced potatoes were quickly fried up and delivered to some of our tables. However this was initiated by our travel manager – not the dining room staff who seemed quite content with the ‘finito’ statement.

Unfortunately this was not the only occasion. One evening instead of the choice of four deserts there was just the one – ice cream cake. Yes delicious, but how do you run a hotel restaurant without having sufficient ice cream cake to serve all the diners? Providing sufficient helpings for all diners does not seem to take place at this hotel and this lack of portion control and planning for the number of diners expected is quite unacceptable. When the cake had run out those left without it were eventually offered ice cream.

The buffet starters at dinner were exceptional and so was the breakfast with omelettes being cooked to order. As all guests seemed to descend on the dining room at the same set time for dinner then there’s a real scrum at the buffet – there is no control and no actual start point for any queue with people just crowding round the very large buffet table and once they have got their position by the side of the table they stay there moving slowly around not allowing other diners a look in.

However, it was the mains at evening dinner that did not live up to four start standard. I felt it was rather telling that on our last night when Roast Beef – English Style was one of the options for the main course, that four out of our table of eight opted for omelette (and none of the eight were vegetarians); it seems that they went for the safe option.

If the dining experience is an important part of your holiday enjoyment then perhaps this would not be your first choice of hotel in Abano Terme, but if you want a good quality hotel in all other respects then this would be the one for you.

Room Tip: The front rooms overlook the town but are quiet, the rear ones have a view of the car park but some of the rear ones have balconies

Hotel Terme Roma probably was a four star hotel. All the staff struggle hard to keep the image up, but their efforts can't help when things do sent work for example our AC ( 38 degrees outside and same inside our room). It's a two star hotel in urgent need to refurbish and maintenance. Mostly old people stay here and it means that children can't dive in the pool or talk in the lobby:-(
If you plan a visit in Abano Terme choose another hotel, there's a lot of them.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a superior room & it was much better than we expected . The hotel service was excellent & the restaurant was so good we ate there every night . It was 4 courses for 25 Euros . There were 3 heated pools 87 degrees , one on the roof plus an inside & outside one on the first floor that were joined so that you could swim from one to the other. The town itself is great to walk around during the day & at night with plenty of cafes / shops etc . Very new compared to most places in Italy & over 60 hotels most of which are 4 or 5 star at very reasonable prices

Room Tip: We liked ours that was overlooking the piazza

We have 2 nights off in this Hotel with my family but unfortunately we are not happy because the airconditioned is not working, 2 nights sleepless night with 35° C in the room, all they explain is that they will fix it but 3 days pass by and nothing happened, its better to go to nearby stores its cooler than in the hotel.

We arrived here last Friday after getting away from a horrible previous experience and Bianca was on reception and what a relief to meet staff with a smile and a pleasant welcome. Although we arrived quite early she sorted it out so we could check in straight away. Our room was absolutely fantastic so much space especially as we were visiting the area to attend a family wedding. The breakfast has so much choice and the environment was relaxed and there was no rush to move on. Also big thanks for the help with getting to the airport. An absolutely fantastic couple of days.
