We spent one night at Hotel San Giorgio prior to boarding a cruise, over all the hotel was OK, the rooms were a little dated, but it was in a good location with several restaurants within walking distance.

Stayed one night prior to a cruise. The rate included the shuttle to the ship. And they have that down pat. Two big buses. They are totally set up for cruise ship stays.

The breakfast was also very good.

The hotel from the outside has great character but beware it has a number of steps that have to be negotiated to get into the hotel. We arrived in the evening, there was no doorman and even though the front desk saw us arrive, (bearing in mind my mother is 80) there was no attempt to help with the luggage or welcome us. We just caught the last service in the empty restaurant, again the front desk said they would stow the luggage and it wasnt until I insisted they took it to the room that we saw any action. We had pasta for dinner that was amazing. The room was comfortable and clean but I would say it was more a 3*. The next morning, the front desk totally different, friendly, helpful and they arranged a joint transfer to the port to lower the price of transportation. The town is nearby, 5 minute walk with many quaint streets and alleyways. Local cafe's that are perfect for breakfast. We found one, had 4 capucchinos, two cheese and ham toasted sanwiches for 10 euros, turned out to be our cheapest meal of the holiday. Walk around its certainly worth it.

Booked this hotel for a one Night pre-cruise stay approx 10 months ago through Expedia. The night before our stay we received an email saying they had to relocate us to another hotel because of boiler problems. They also gave us the choice of cancelling our reservation at no charge enabling us to rebook a hotel on our own. We opted to have them relocate us but the hotel they chose was hotel brizi which was located approximately 15 minutes out of town and in the middle of nowhere . There we met many people in the same boat as us being relocated to this hotel . Seemed very strange that all of us had either booked through Expedia or booking.com . When we checked in the hotel clerk said it seems like hotel San Giorgio had overbooked again. We will never know if they had boiler problems or not or if they had indeed overbooked

The rooms are old, and the beds are quite hard, but the service and charm of this hotel were a highlight of our stay in Italy. The 2 story windowed doors open up onto a small terrace and a beautiful view of the ocean. The sound of the waves was a very calming way to get to sleep. The upstairs bedroom was novel, but a little difficult if you need to visit the bathroom during the night.
The hotel restaurant offers an adequate variety of meals at all sittings. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the rooms are kept clean.

Room tip: Loft rooms are no good if you don't like steep stairs. Ask for an ocean view, but be prepared for street noise too.
