We had a wonderful view from our balcony directly onto the lake with Isola De Garda almost opposite. The view compensated for other shortcomings about this hotel! First thing we noticed was there was no kettle or drink making facilities in our room. When we stayed at in Desenzano last year our hotel provided these so it's not just an Italian thing but obviously du Lac want to make money from guests who have to buy all drinks in their restaurant. The first night we arrived, being quite tired we decided to eat at the hotel. It was just after 9pm when we went down to the restaurant & the owner/manager informed us that we'd have to hurry as they finish serving at 9.30! We ate out at other places in Gardone the rest of the week & were never hassled over time limits anywhere else no matter how late we chose to dine.

We didn't stay at Hotel du lac, but ate there one evening during our holiday at Gardone.

The location is superb - right on the lake side, reasonable menu featuring lake fish, no air con (eat outside!) and free wifi.
The off-putting thing is the waiters who stand outside and try to entice people in to eat there!

My husband's meal was good - asparagus soup and lake fish (which he said was really good and moist) with grilled vegetables.
I started with spaghetti carbonara, which was ok. I had the mixed fried fish - fritto misto - which was awful. The whitebait was very very salty, the octopus and squid both so rubbery as to be inedible.

All in all, average sort of food - can't recommend it. There's better close by.

Hope this was helpful!

Hotel in a beautiful spot, if you stay at this hotel better booking bed and breakfast. Breakfast is adequate, tinned fruit, fruit juice is made with some sort of power which is not very good, coffee was quite good, and the was plenty of choice with rolls, cereals, meats and cheese, yogurts. Mainly Germans there when we were there, there was no choice for those on half board and the meals did not look very good, Germans seemed to leave more than they ate. We had dinner twice from the hotel menu and it was good with the 20% off meal and drinks. The room was clean the bed was hard but that suited me. As soon as we opened the door you could smell the drains or toilet, which was very off putting. Towels changed every day and sheets every day or every other day. But it was very hot. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the bedroom. The air condition was not very efficient. It heat was quite uncomfortable. Never know it so hot in the Italian Lakes
There is a lady on reception in the afternoons who speaks English was very good, rest of the staff were not very good.
The hotel is in the middle of the lake which makes getting about a bit better. The travel agent around the corner is very helpful, you can book your ferry and bus tickets there. The young women who is there from 8:30 will plan your journey for you, with times of ferries and times to go onto other villages and return ferries and you can buy your tickets there. They also do day trips to different places which work out a lot cheaper than going with the tour operators. You cannot book ferry tickets in advance you can only book them on the day.
If you like Markets you need to go early as they close at dinner time, they are well worth going to. Plan to go to the different villages when there is a market on.
All in all a good holiday, hotel could have been better, but it not an expensive hotel so you get what you pay for!

Our room was probably one of the best in the hotel on the third floor and had two balconies, one with the lake view was amazing and also to look along the promenade and up to the hills was lovely. The hotel is small yes and basic. Bed and pillows very hard, good for your back but not your head. but very clean, clean towels every day if required, beds changed every couple of days, staff very helpful and polite nothing was too much trouble. Can not fault the breakfast served although continental, there was plenty to choose and although breakfast was from 07.30 to 09.30 even if you came down at 09.45 there was still plenty for you to choose from. Monies off for all meals at the hotel and restaurant next door, is very helpful. The area is very pretty and very quite. Nothing to stop you sleeping as the restaurant stops cooking at 09.30 although drinks seem to be served till about 11.30. But it is so easy to get on the boat and travel to so many other places. The menu at the hotel is the same every evening and unfortunately all the restaurants in the area all serve the same.
Would go back to lake but would stay some where different ==== but that's just us lots of people go back to that area year after year.

Room Tip: Corner rooms seem to be bigger

Although this hotel sits in a beautiful location it lacks a great deal and I believe is incorrectly classified as of three star quality; anyone booking a stay here should not expect more than a basic provision and neither my wife or myself would ever wish to stay there again. We stayed there in early June and were shocked when we entered this old hotel as the physical presentation was vastly different from our expectations. Our room on the fourth floor was tiny and resembled a caravan with basic amenities, expectations which were not supplemented by having a (small) balcony. However that was not the greatest issue for as we entered the room we were overcome by the stench of drains or sewers. Opening the window and bathroom door allowed the extractor fan to be utilised and the through draught reduced the smell to allow us to consider our options which are not simple when you have paid up front for a holiday many months in advance. Foolishly we did not walk out at that point.
Overnight sleep was impossible due to the high temperature and because the pillow was so thin even folding thrice was useless. So no air-con and no fridge, although there was no room in the tiny room for one, meant there was no way to cool down or sleep, at 3 am we couldn't endure more so I went down to reception and insisted that we have the air-con switched on and that we have more pillows. Grudgingly this happened although we had to put our own pillow cases on and we were asked to switch off the bathroom extractor fan regardless of the fact it was keeping the awful smell at bay! So much for three star facilities and to cap it all the air-con was switched off in the morning. We endured three nights but had to see the holiday rep and get out of there although this did cost us a lot.
As regards other matters, the hotel does serve a basic cold continental breakfast but I am unclear as to which continent it relates to and the serving hours of 07.30am to 09.30 means you can't have a lie-in and if you arrive much after 08. 30am some items (croissants) may have finished and not replenished.
Yes the hotel does have wi-fi and I would agree that the hotel's restaurant was okay for evening meals; it was good to get 20% discount but this in no way compensates for the overall inadequacy and poor quality of the hotel that we experienced.
Sadly this is my first really negative review since joining TripAdviser many years ago but, if you are going to Gardone, go to another hotel!

Room Tip: I can not recommend this hotel but would return to Lake Garda.

Dear Sir Madam, we remember of you and of your complains. Only a 3 stars hotel can't become a 4/5 stars hotel because some guests made a wrong choice to decide their holiday. We think that the description and the photos on web site are clear to describe our hotel.Best regards.Hotel du Lac
