“Bad Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2011

Spent 1 week in October ( 9-16).
As a former receptionist in the USA hotel can say one thing: Service at the reception suxx big time!!! Any unusual situation and employees don't know what to do because nobody teached them how to behave in such situations.
Unfriendliness most of the time. Feel guilty to ask anything because they make you feel like you owe them something. They have couple of russian TV channels. They are not loud enough to hear comparing to the others channels. Phone call to reception didn't solve the problem. They tried to say that was a satellite problem. The volume goes up till 25 and that is it.
Outdated TV sets.
Stupid card sistem: you have to put money on your card key through the machine in the lobby. Can't pay cash in the hotel area at all. Only these cards.
Faced one problem with russian tourist in the lobby: he was trying to get assistance at the reception because ATM ate his credit card. He was told nobody could help him because e wasn't the guest of this hotel and ATM is ONLY for this hotels guests. Ridiculous. Me and my girlfriend managed to help him to get the phone number to the bank of this ATM after 5 minutes arguing with the front desk clerk.
Poor breakfast buffet and is only from 7am till 9.30 am.
Dinner is not bad . Bottle of wine and water free of charge.
Nice territory, beautiful pools.
Internet connection in the lobby only (3 euros per hour).
But in generally would not recomment this hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: Stayed in villette. Was not bad. Can't say anything about the main buildings rooms. Pictures in...

We arrived at the hotel at 2p.m as the dining room was closing, were told that it would cost us 25 euros each for a plate of pasta,so we declined.Next we were shown to the 'garden room'
in the annexe-we thought we'd booked the hotel! The room was basic, dark dingy on a par with a travel lodge. We were told to dine in the parco dining room, where we waited outside in the rain for it to open!We might as well have booked an appartment,as we were disconnected from the hotel.THIS IS NOT A 4* EXPERIENCE!!!We couldn't open the door to the balcony,as I was
bitten constantly by the mosquitoes that came in.We asked to be moved to a room in the hotel, but were told that it was full,so moved to another garden room that was no better.
I fell in the dining room,it was being refurbished and something was protruding from the floor that tripped me up.After this,we used the hotel dining room, which was better.Food was good.

Room Tip: Make sure you're not put in the annexe.

We had a week all inclusive at the Ata Naxos beach resort. As it was nearing the end of the season there wasnt any entertainment but actually that wasnt really a problem for us.

The accomodation as perfect for us, more than enough room for the 4 of us. As some of the other reviewers have said, some of the decor was a bit tired but it really wasnt a problem for us. The card system wasnt an issue either (cant really understand why it was for anyone else )

The food was excellent, there was so much choice and at no time did any of our party go hungry. I can only assume the those who didnt like it probably think that Italians only eat spag bol pizza or carbonara. This was proper Italian food as eaten by Italians. my father in law is Italian and this is the type of food that we always eat at their house. The only issue was that the desserts were so beautiful that if you went to a later sitting of dinner there might not be a great selection of them. All the more reason to get there a bit earlier.

The grounds of the hotel were beautiful, spotlessly clean, in fact the whole complex was cleaned daily. The vast majority of the staff were wonderful, Daniele and Giovanni really looked after us every time we ate and made a real effort with the children.

Giardini Naxos was not the most beautiful Italian town that I have ever seen but that said some nights we would walk up to have a drink at the Lido (next to the sandy beach) after dinner and sit by the water front where you could see the lights of Taormina.

You cant go to Giardini Naxos without visiting the beautful town of Taormina. The views to Mt Etna are stunning from here, it really reminded me of some of the towns on the Amalfi Coast. Would recommend that you dont go on a Saturday, much more busy than during the week (cruise ship tours) the restaurants overlooking the harbour were a great place to have a relaxing lunch but it doesnt come cheap - well worth it though. Take the local bus from just round the corner of the hotel, it was 2.80euro return and the climb up the mountian was well worth it.

A very good holiday that more than meet our expectations, despite being the end of the season and not all services being available. Lovely relaixing time with family it what we were looking for and that exactly what we got. Would definately recommend it to anyone with children.

This was our first trip to Sicily & we booked this hotel as it was advertised in the Thomson brochure as a Platinum property & we wanted a hotel with a pool.
When we arrived we were allocated a "villa" room which was a room in blocks of 6 with a garden view. We were surprised as it was a massive room with 2 bedrooms & large balcony which got the sun all afternoon. It was nice enough & was cleaned yesterday but I didnt think it was worth a 4* rating, more like a 3*
The food was better than we thought even though the restaurant looked a bit like a school canteen! There was always plenty of choice & you get complimentary wine & water. As it was towards the end of the season the hotel werent doing any evening entertaiment so as "compensation" we got 10 free drinks vouchers which was a bonus as we wouldnt have been watching it anyway! We ate out a couple of times as there are several bars & restaurants within a few minutes walk from the hotel & the main resort of Giardini Naxos is about 20/25 mins stroll away.
You can get the bus to Taormina for about 3€ return & takes about 20 mins to get there round some hair raising bends!
Overall I probably would stay here again but I did prefer Taormina.
In the Godfathers footsteps trip is a must for any movie fans.

We've just had a fantastic holiday at the Atahotel Naxos Beach Resort in Sicily. Whilst it's a huge complex you are treated as an individual and all the staff - the cleaners, gardeners, restaurant etc - were all very friendly. We had an apartment style room in a block of 4 (there are loads of these blocks in the complex) and whilst the room was a little "tired" it was clean and ample for the 2 of us. We had a main bedroom and a smaller room with 2 more single beds with patio doors which lead onto the large terrace which had table and chairs and a back gate!! It was exceedingly quiet all the time - perhaps it's towards the end of their season. The olympic pool is lovely to sit around and the other lower pool is also nicely laid out. It's very easy to get to the Naxos beach although the sea is very strong and about 3 feet in you can't reach the bottom so you need to be a strong swimmer to go in. The free bottle of wine at dinner was a lovely gesture as was the champagne for our wedding anniversary which was in our room when we arrived. We decided to keep it for dinner on our our actual anniversary and the restaurant manager came up and congratulated us. The walk to the Naxos resort takes about 20 minutes but it's lovely both by day and night when you get fabulous views of Taormina lit up. We did 2 trips - Mount Etna and Syracruse. The weather at Mount Etna is unpredicatable and it's not guaranteed you'll get to 3000 metres. We managed to but it was so windy and cloudy we weren't allowed to walk around and the volcanologist couldn't take us around the crater as planned. That notwithstanding it was still fantastic to do. Syracruse was a lovely day and well worth it. The trips aren't cheap and we plan to return to do Agrigento. You can hire a car but it's not easy to get around and the island is so big you'd spend a lot of time getting to your destination and likely not have time to see anything. We went to Taormina by bus twice. It's very easy and cheap to get to although the shops are very expensive - typical of Italy. The Greek theatre is well worth a visit as are the gardens.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the apartment style rooms

Having read some of the reviews about this hotel we were somewhat concerned about what awaited us. However it proved much better than expected and therefore not sure why this hotel receives some poor reviews.

On arrival we received an upgrade to one of the (upper level) superior villas which was well maintained, clean, had excellent air conditioning, was spacious with 2 bedrooms and a huge balcony / terrace overlooking a small waterfall with the summit of Etna visible from the door (Room 766). Also the fridge and safe were provided free of charge. However the villas nearer the sea appeared smaller and did have a sort of holiday camp look to them. The hotel grounds were immaculate with the pavements and patios washed daily.

We were allocated the Parco restaurant for meals. The quality of cooked food was generally good but to be fair the choice available was not as wide as other 4* hotels we have stayed in. That said we never struggled to find something. There was a wide selection in the cold buffet and desert table but as others have said, they are not good at replacing empty dishes and there appeared to be no prepared fruit or ice cream. However the free bottle of wine and water was an excellent bonus. Breakfast was adequate but other hotels we have stayed in do this better.

There were always plenty of staff around who we found to be friendly and helpful. The cashless system was a bit of an inconvenience but you are able to charge to your room if you prefer. Magnificent views of Etna from the hotel roof by climbing the stone fire escape just off the piazza

Looked forward to visiting Sicily as have been to Serento & Lake Garda but my my what a let down, the hotel greeting was fine untill we we're put on what can only be described as a golf trolley & sent off to our appt, it seemed to be in the back & beyond, it was so dark & very dated, we did ask to be moved but you guessed it the answer was NO, The best was yet to come, as we usually book 4star we dress for dinner, don,t know why though as people looked just like they did during the day with shorts & t shirts. On my first night being a veggie, i had a choice of salad, chips or pasta, then when i went to get dessert there was hardly anything left, not replacing items as they run out, it was tough, what happens if others book, you have to get dessert first so remember this. The breakfast didn't change the entire time we were there, the dinners were very rarely hot as they have no heater under them it is a free for all at meal times the only meal we enjoyed was at the pizza restaurant on the complex, the saving grace was the olympic pool & the compimentary wine in the evening.

Room Tip: always ask for sea rooms otherwise you will be in a chalet type room quite a way from main building
