“Perfect for being first on the piste!”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

If you like to be first on the piste in the morning ,the position of this hotel is perfect. Breakfast (cereal, ham, egg, bread, cheese, croissants, fruit juice, jam and tea/coffee- same each morning)is at 8 and the lift opens at 8.45. it takes about four minutes from the spacious ski room up a small hill and you are up to the top of the mountain in minutes with the beautifully groomed slopes to yourself!
The food in the evenings was excellent. We had a choice each night and really enjoyed the range of traditional Italian food served; the service was quick and efficient. The bar and lounge area was very cosy with the log fire and we enjoyed chatting to other guests and the friendly owner, Barbara.
We also found that the hotel's own pizza restarant was excellent value at lunchtime with large pizzas for only 5 euros. It was always quiet and there were deckchairs to sit on in the sun trap back garden if you fancied a rest after lunch.
I agree with other comments about the rooms being quite dark due to poor lighting but as not much time is spent in them, this was not a major problem for us and we really enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: We stayed in 408 which had good views of the mountains but if you like the sun during the day ask fo...

The hotel is clean, tidy and its bonus is being in a ski-in and virtually ski-out position.Bedrooms are spacious with tv ( no english channels ) fridge and safe box ( bonus ). Heating is eratic and tiled floors and very draughty seals in balcony doors don`t help. Bathroom was a good size with plenty of hot water any time of day for showers etc. Lighting in the bedrooms is dire, if you like to read in bed take a head torch ! The lounge areas are quite adequate with plenty of seating. The hostess Barbara is a charming lady who is keen to help and serve and is noteably the lynch-pin of the hotel. However, she cannot be there 24hrs and the lack of staff is noteable to the point where the teenage son is on duty in the bar area on quite a few evenings. My biggest complaint is the service and food served in the residents restaurant which was far below par and in some cases inedible. Waiters are rude in trying to clear tables whilst you are still eating ! Breakfast is monotonous even by continental style buffet standards, with hot drinks out of a machine which are undrinkable, and dinner was so inconsistant that whole tables were returning food hardly touched. My title of "you get what you pay for" is a fair statement but in relation to the cuisine, I`m afraid this is one of the poorest in more than 40 years of ski resort travelling. Finally, unfortunately the hotel is at the top of probably the ugliest village I`ve been to outside France and a little way out of the centre and does not sustain any apres-ski of any description. P.S. The skiing is great for beginners/intermediates, well groomed, and the resort can be fully covered twice over in a long weekend ( 3 days ).

We relocated to this Hotel after spending only one night in the Nightmare that is Hotel Pila 2000, (Note to self never book anything that has got the millennium year in the title its bound to be a disaster). The difference was stark, Hotel Plan Bois was staffed by a lovely family who made us feel welcome and fed us to within an inch of our waistlines with the most exquisite Italian fair and course after course and altered their standard menu every night to suit the 5 kids in our party. Rooms were roomy -: well heated and air conditioned, facilities were great with the friendliest ski hire lady in the Aosta valley in the in-house ski hire place and boot room is the best and easiest Ive had and access to slopes was a mere 25metres. Couldn't recommend it more, beware the Crystal brochure, always look at this website first.

Room Tip: They are converting some rooms into suites for 2012 season so ring them directly. Dont go through Cr...

Easy access to the slopes, direct from the hotel, Leisse chair lift a couple of minutes walk & you can ski back into the hotel grounds. A short walk to ski school & the on piste bars, restaurants & nightclub. Clean & comfortable en-suite rooms equipped with TV, fridge & safe. The majority of rooms have a balcony which gives excellent views out over the mountains or down towards Pila itself. Good food is served in the restaurant with a separate pizzeria also available. The lounge is equipped with a comfy seating area, an open fire & a bar, with wireless internet access available for a nominal charge. Underground parking is available at a charge but free parking for residents is available outside. There is a gym & sauna at the hotel. It is also pet friendly. This is also a good location in the summer as a base for walking/biking in the mountains. Friendly & helpful staff make for an enjoyable stay.

Hotel Plan Bois is good, clean, warm but basic hotel. It is situated very well for the slopes with only a 2minute walk to the Leisse chairlift and you can ski back to the hotel. The hotel itself is a bit of walk from the main part of Pila but to be honest there is not real point going there as there is no real centre and very little (I mean no) alpine charm. The ski area of Pila however is well worth a visit as it some of the best views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn from the top and some lovely tree lined runs.
There are 1 or 2 bars close by on the piste if you need a drink after the skiing.
The bedrooms are basic but have a modern safe and TV –there are no English channels but the TV does have an integrated DVD player.

The hotel has a nice lounge area with a log fire and a small bar. The food in the restaurant was fine – certainly not gourmet quality but it was plentiful and hot - the antipasti and pasta courses being the best. We found all the staff to be both very friendly and helpful.

The only negative we would have were the large number of small and very noisy Italian children who spent most of the night running round the lounge and in and out of the restaurant with little regard to the comfort and relaxation of the other guests.
The owner tells me that she is planning a separate lounge for the children from next year.
