The history of the area is abundant and set amongst shops, cafes, churches and so many people out and about. The culture is so different from our North American culture. It was a pleasure to ba apart of it

Had planned a full day sightseeing but left after about 3 hours.
It is worth visiting for Museo Faggiano, the Duomo (cathedral), Anfiteatro Romano (Roman Amphitheatre), the many churches and what's left of the city walls.
However it felt like a neglected city with much litter and graffiti.
Maybe we had been spoilt by the charm of the surrounding towns and villages like Ostuni, Alberobello and Locorotondo.
We visited on the weekend of 15th September and were interested in the weekend activities in the ajoined square. Unfortunately the person I spoke to could only speak limited English and not very helpful if the wifi had been working as advertised Google translate would have been useful. The builders have been sympathetic to the building giving it a new lease of life.
This city is a great hub for visiting. Visually arresting with its narrow streets and Baroque architecture, it's a university town filled with intellectuals and young people. Restaurants are many, varied and excellent. You can live cheap or dine in elegance. Fabulous lodging available at great rates. Geographically situated to reach all the great sites of Puglia, both on the Ionian and Aegean seas.
While traveling in Puglia make a stop in this historical place. There are several churches to see and the central square. Worth a short stop.
Have ice cream in gelateria.
An interesting older town with much from the 17th century. We bought a book with suggested tours, but it was mainly about architecture rather than history. We never did get a good explanation as to why so many expensive houses were built in that period.
The Roman remains are pretty intact in places, but strange that 2/3 of the theatre was built over, but 1/3 not.
The historical area within the walls is primarily for tourists. Gift shops, expensive watch and jewellery, clothes, tourist style restaurants.
Interesting enough for 2 days max, but not a lot of substance.
