“Panoramic views”
Reviewed October 25, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

This was an amazing place to stay and although in some ways difficult to access we very much enjoyed being there. The accommodation is basically a studio room with a good sized covered terrace including cooking station, an adjoining bathroom and a rambling garden with incredible views in all directions. There's also a wonderful outdoor (hot) shower!

A few people go by on the mule track up to the top of Monte Rosa, but basically once you're up here, you're on your own with superb views across the sea to Stromboli, down to the port of Lipari on one side and what seem like the tiny houses and streets far below you. A great place if you like getting away from it all.

The walk up there is a challenge though. If you've got a car, you can do two-thirds of the journey in that and walk for the last quarter of an hour up a steep and in parts poorly maintained mule track (the first bit is roughly paved). However if you're walking back from Lipari, be prepared for a quarter of an hour on a very busy coast road with no designated pavement, then a scarily steep climb for 20 minutes before you get to the mule track; I'm 71 and in a reasonable state of health and fitness but could only do 100 steps at a time going up without stopping for breath. You wouldn't want to carry a lot of heavy shopping! That means you have to plan ahead and buy most of your food when you first arrive so that Alfredo can carry it up for you on his quad bike - he takes the rest of the luggage too.

I'm sure we were a lot fitter when we left than when we arrived!

“Amazing house and view”
Reviewed March 29, 2017 for a stay in July 2016

Amazing house with an amazing view and terrace! I remember this stay like a dream - one week of full relax, silence and good weather. I recommend this place for people who like to live a bit isolated, far from the noise of cars and people. The house is at the top of the hill, not accessible by car - only on foot. The walk uphill (15 minutes) is totally worth it but bear this in mind when booking! Alfredo carried our luggages to the house with his squad bike. I loved this place and would totally go back.

“A true retreat (with civilisation just a hop, skip and jump away)”

This magical casetta in the Aeolian Islands is the perfect spot for balancing the need for complete privacy with the occasional and convenient reentry to urban life. One could go for days without seeing others if one so desires - or one could just as easily dash down the mountain for caffè al bar each morning.
The location is ideal: nestled against a hillside with panoramic views towards Canneto, Porticello, Vulcano, Panarea, Stromboli and Sicily itself. It's remarkably quiet up on the hill, even though Canneto seems to be within spitting distance.
From the house itself one needs around 45 minutes to walk to the town of Lipari, which has (super)markets, bars, restaurants, pasticcerie, etc. The first part of the walk is a dirt path (bring a pair of old shoes!). We didn't feel the need to rent a vespa or quad, but doing so would make the town even more accessible. One could also easily explore the other Aeolian Islands from here, although we were happy just to gaze out at them.
All the amenities were well kept and well finished. Alfredo himself was a jovial, reliable and tremendously helpful host (to the point of offering us a lift back up the hill after we had shopped for fresh fish and vegetables!). He is constantly improving and adding things to make it as comfortable as possible.
We will undoubtedly return to this special and unique place and highly recommend it!
