Have arrived today from Capri in hopes of a hotel with things to do near by. This place is an hour & 15 mins from the Serrento port & is not worth the windy roads. There is a beach short walk from hotel but you have to pay to use it. Rooms are too small to move in, view is of a carpark. Not allowed to use the computer in the lobby. Not what we thought we would be coming too. The internet does not tell you about the bad location this is in. We are so bored & if it wasnt such a hassle fitting it in with our other travel plans, we would be back on a ferry to Capri as we could actually do stuff there & not be bored in a hotel room on the other side of the world from where we live.

I have to say, some of the older reviews on here really concerned us as well as some of the pictures. Well, let me tell you, don’t worry. This hotel is fine with helpful staff and a great location.

Room

We were in room 115. Remember, this hotel isn’t new at all. The building is probably over 60-70 years old. However, it has been remodeled. The view from our room was over a parking lot and other apartments. If you’re looking for a view hotel, this isn’t it. We could see the ocean but it’s not really overlooking the water.

However, the bed was comfortable, the room wasn’t small but there isn’t much space between the bed and the table in the room.

The bathroom was a bit small. The shower is your typical “phone booth” style so be prepared to suck it in to fit. The bathroom could use a little updating but it’s not a deal breaker.

There is a safe in the room, TV, and electric shutters to keep the sun out. OK, the door to the balcony is a bit weird. When you turn the handle 180 degrees, the door opens. If you only turn the handle 90 degrees, the door kind of falls back into the room like it came off the top hinge. Fear not, this is a feature. This is what you do if you want to crack the door open for some ventilation without having the door wide open. The room had a ceiling fan which works quite well.

Staff

The staff is very nice and helpful. They work hard to make sure you have a nice stay.

Parking

The parking is in a lot that is under the building next door. If you are driving down the hill towards the ocean you turn BEFORE the Miramar. The staff comes out and lets you in and out of the garage. The charge is 15 Euros per day.

Location

If you don’t want to walk up and down ancient steps to get to the water or you want to be able to walk to stores and restaurants, this is the place to stay. Just across the street is a bakery and stores. Just down the street are several restaurants. The beach is a short block away. You have nothing but level ground. The main street in the town which has very limited traffic, it only 2 blocks away or so. They have lots of restaurants and shops on this street.

Breakfast

The breakfast is included and it’s in the basement. It’s not a Western breakfast but they have enough to get you going in the morning. They make up some hot drinks if you ask. Now, when were were there, another guest was being very demanding and kind of being a bit rude. Look, this is free breakfast. The staff works very hard to please you. One gentleman worked the overnight shift in the lobby then the entire morning serving breakfast. Cut the staff a break. Be nice, be happy. If you want something more substantial walk down to one of the nearby restaurants.

The have meats, cheeses, yogurt, toast, cereal, omelettes, juices, and some other items.

WiFi

The WiFi is available for free in the rooms. It’s adequate for email and browsing but not so much for videos.

Conclusion

This is a comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff. It’s a great home base if you want to enjoy the Amalfi Coast. If you want convenience and want easy access to the beach, this is the place for you.

Stayed many times at the Hotel Miramare as part of my job.
It is a decent, cosy, central and friendly hotel with its + and -.
It is not a new building, and yes, maybe here and there, maybe a "friendly handyhand" is needed, but the cleaning is good, the staff (their English is not for top grades at Oxford) is helpful, cordial and if the language is a barrier...keep calm, no stress and Things will be sorted out. The best rooms, in my opnion, are those facing the backyard/parking of the hotel. The view is Italian style old Buildings, quite charming actually, the parking lot is private and covered (it helps with the view, and no noise), from those rooms you have city view, mountain view and some rooms ypu also have side seaview (you can see the blue...not the Beach). Sun exposure is also better for the rooms facing the backyard. No noise from the main road here.
It is not a modern hotel, but you do not feel you are in a victorian mausoleum.
Breakfast is...italian, and served in the basement. Not optimal but anyway not a disaster. A lot of cakes and biscuits/cookies, jams, some grilled vegies, cheese, ham or salami, fried eggs (not to be judged by its "looks"), there is "Black coffee" but DO ask Massimo for an expresso/capuccino or americano from the real espresso machine.
Normally it is Super Massimo that is in charge of breakfast..alone..so be patient, you will get your coffee...by the way, do not ask Massimo for a lot of Things at the same time, he is great there is no need to stress him :). Maybe not the "great breakfast" in life, but it is decent and you have the basics.
This hotel do not have a restaurant but for some fine dinning, i definetely recommend a dinner at San Lazaro Botanico Hotel (5 star) owned by the same family. Guests from Miramare have a special rate for visiting the famous cactus gardens or just enjoy the fabulous pool and spa from Botanico Hotel. The owner, Lady Angela, created a hillside paradise worth visiting.
At the Miramare, one have a common terrase to enjoy the sun, read a book, hang with friends. They also have a Little bar at reception. There is good wifi all over and for free.
It is a simple, not bling fancy unit. Do not expect the grandeur, luxury and service of a 5 star but simple, friendly and cosy atmosphere.
If something does not function properly just have a Word with Rosa or with the one and only Angelo.

Room tip: Back yard/parking facing rooms.... believe me
