“Really loved!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

I didn't have any of the experiences people note about curfew etc - in fact, the first thing Marco did was give me a key to the side door in case I came in after hours. From the very start Marco was a wonderful host, making sure I had everything I needed, always around to answer questions, give recommendations, even do a little translation when I needed it! :)

The room was immaculate - very modern, marble floors, clean lines. Its a "cold" decor, but lovely in that way. Kind of matches the mountains.

The breakfast is really incredible. The breakfast room has glass walls looking over the lake and the breakfast itself has a large variety of fruits, cereals, cheeses and meats, pastries - really wonderful.

Location is great - close walk to everything. VERY highly recommended!

Room Tip: I had a lower level room looking over the lake. The door / window opened out into a small patio area...

There is no doubt that this hotel is as good as all the recommendations already state -

BUT there are a couple of things the traveller should know before coming to this hotel.
They do NOT take credit cards / cheques etc only cash!
They do NOT provide tea coffee making facilities in the rooms.
There is a bar in reception BUT in the two weeks we were there it did NOT stay open for residents but closed at the set time every night.
Cash is not taken at the bar but tallied up and paid on checkout.
Although there is a phone in the room there was no obvious room service facilities /menu.
There are no room service meals or snacks provided.
There is no iron or board provided either in the room or available to borrow.
There is no dry cleaning service.
There is no trouser press provided in the room.
There was a fridge provided in the room but there were strict instructions that you were NOT to use it for your own drinks.
You are not allowed to bring guests /family /visitors into your room (even if you vouch for them yourself) without first arranging it with hotel - and even then it was often not acceptable. Whilst this apears to be a good security measure it was flawed, was unnecessary and autocratic and with very little or no room for manouvre or allowances for off the cuff visits by anyone at the last minute.
Marco is always very smartly dressed works hard and does everything from serving tables at every meal to serving drinks on the decking to looking after reception and the bar at the same time. He and is always cheerful and helpful and nothing is too much trouble provided it suits and falls in line with the rules of the hotel.
One of the waiters constant off the wall humour (whilst OK in moderation) could be seen to be quite upsetting to some, and agravating to others ( I witnessed this myself on two occassions).
I felt within 1 day I was almost trying to avoid him in the hope of just getting a straight answer, even if only trying to buy a drink.
After a week at VEGA you begin to accept the off the wall humour and become accepting even compliant to the many rules of the hotel.
Marco runs a tight ship and that is a good thing but ignore the rules at your peril.

Room Tip: Must be lakeside view 1st 2nd or 3rd floor for the fantastic views.

We visited many towns on the lake but we found the Malcesine provided best for our needs and lots to do. Hotel Vega is an outstanding hotel with excellent rooms and very friendly staff. We had a room directly looking over the lake with a private balcony the room had air conditioning and very clean and well set out with plenty of space, bathroom had a shower and is maintained to a high standard. The restaurant overlooks the lake and is spacious and airy. We stayed half board, breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice and offered cooked eggs as well. The manager Marco came around each table every morning with the menu for the evening meal and explained in detail of the choice available for starter and main course. Evening meal consisted of salad from a buffet, a specialty dish (taster), your chosen starter followed by your main course. A selection of sweets are available for your desert The food was excellent. Although the hotel had no pool we swam in the lake from the hotel decking, it had a large a small pool for relaxing in and also a lovely private garden to the side again over looking the lake. We are definitely going next year.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake are really quiet and air conditioning is quiet

We just returned from the Hotel Vega yesterday where we stayed in room 10 [side lake view]
where you could watch the ferries coming & going from around the beautiful lake.
We have never seen a cleaner hotel, Marco the owner is very proud of it & rightly so too. He
personally greets you on arrival, makes you laugh every day and personally gets up early to make you tea or coffee & wave you off at 5.50am. His 2 waiters are both very professional & helpful. The location is perfect - directly on the lake, only 5 mins stroll into the delightful cobbled streets [take flatties!] & yet it is peaceful. If you want to stay out after 11pm Marco gives you a night key. Even the air con.is peaceful. Beautiful dining room with floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides overlooking the lake. Can't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Our friends stayed in a standard room 15 which overlooked the road/mountain & was small, we paye...

What a fantastic holiday. The hotel is a 4 minute stroll, on the flat, to the lovely little harbour of Malcesine. It fronts the shoreline and the views across the lake are just breathtaking, especially at sunset. We would like to personally thank Marco, the owner, alias Philipo, alias Antonio, alias Marco's Grannie, and his staff for their attention to all our needs. Yes, Marco has the most quirky sense of humour, but also a heart of gold. For a three star hotel the service, food, and standard of accomodation is excellent. (I have stayed in 4 star hotels which were nowhere near as good). No he dosn't take credit cards, and no there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room, but this is Italy and a very common feature. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and cannot recommend it more highly.

Room Tip: Worth booking a lake view room to watch the lake activity and for the views themselves. Watching the...

We've been to Malcesine many times and this year we opted for the wonderful Hotel Vega. It has had many excellent reviews and I now can add mine too.

Marco was very welcoming and during our entire stay he was always helpful and cheerful. The room, one of the new ones, was fantastic. Beautifully furnished and an amazing bathroom: The view from our balcony was great as was the view from the dining room. It was very hot - mid August - but the air conditioning worked perfectly - as long as you kept the door closed, of course. Breakfasts were very good and although we only had dinner a few nights we found the food was excellent for the price. The hotel is just a few steps away from the main harbour and every evening there was great entertainment there. On our first night there were fantastic fireworks all around the lake and we had a great view from the deck area of the hotel. Although the hotel is in the town we were not disturbed by noise at any time. A lovely oasis!

All the rooms at this hotel are air conditioned! The system is automatically activated when doors and windows are closed. Too bad you didn't look or ask Marco Skywalker - he would have helped you right away. We stayed at the Hotel Vega 2 weeks in June and another week at the end of August/early September, and we have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Some people are complaining about "overpriced house wine" on this site. Well, that is rubbish. There is no "house wine" at the Hotel Vega. Only high quality brand wines are served and opened at the table, and these wines are not available by the liter anywhere. If someone wants cheap wine, I am sure they can find enough downtown anywhere at a bar.

The fact that the front doors close at 11h p.m. helps Marco's guests enjoy a peaceful and quiet evening and night. Every guest receives a night key upon arrival which he can use for the side door if coming back late. Peace and quiet in the hotel are one of the features that are most appreciated by the predominantly British guests, but also by everyone else who stays at the Hotel Vega. Thank God Marco does what he does and how he does it!
