Positano is an expensive town - food, accommodations, and everything else. Everyone knows this, but the town is so beautiful it is all worth it.
On the recommendation of our local guide, we tried Latteria for lunch. And we were so pleased - excellent food and quite inexpensive. So, we tried it again, and were equally pleased. Octopus salad; eggplant parmesan; grilled vegetables; grilled zucchini; lasagna; chicken with potatoes, meatball sandwich... each one was very tasty, with quite reasonable sized servings. Lunch for two, with bottled water, for 20-25 Euros, total. You pay that much for starter for one person in most restaurants.
Great atmosphere, also. Friendly, English fluent staff (for those of us who Italian challenged). You go through the llittle food and wine room to the serving counter. All the day's dishes are displayed. You choose what you want. You can either take away or, if a table is available, sit outside and they will bring your food to you.
Wonderful lunch option. Closed on Sundays. Latteria also is open for breakfast and sells a variety of foods, wines (not so inexpensive), and other items.
