Our family of 4 ([parents and adult children) stayed at Villa Michelina at beginning of October 2017. Michelina and Umberto were perfect hosts and really helped us to have an amazing holiday. Umberto even took us to the trail head of Path of the Gods and picked up at the end which saved us hours on buses. The house is wonderfully located for day trips all around the many attractions of the Amalfi coast in a small village with access to the beach on its doorstep.
Villa Michelina was absolutely charming and we felt like family from the moment we arrived ! The location is beautiful and the Villa is splendid . Michelina does a wonderful job in making sure we had everything we needed and Faith gave us a wonderful week of tours, boat rides, meals at local restaurants, fun excursions but above all, provided us with a wonderful tour guide, Joy :) It was an experience we will never forget .. just showing friends my photos makes me miss it and eager to return one day ...Thanks to Faith, Michele, Michelina as well as Rocky and Riley for a great vacation !!
We enjoyed our stay here very much. Villa Michelina is tucked into a narrow cove, below the busy Amalfi coast road, with spectacular views out to sea. From the front terrace (which we christened the 'aperitivo/digestivo terrace!) it is delightful to watch the sun go down and see the birds and bats swooping through the air between the cliffs.
The villa was pristine and had everything we needed for our week's stay. Michelina popped in with delicious fresh fruit and cakes from time to time, and was there to help if we had questions. We took advantage of the offer from Praiano's supermarket to pick us up and drop us back off with our shopping - given the steep climb involved I would recommend this approach.
We particularly liked the outside terraces, which were surrounded by carefully tended gardens and got plenty of sun. We used the barbecue terrace to good effect! In terms of local restaurants we tried Il Pirata and Franchino's, both of which offer excellent food and spectacular views. There are plenty of other restaurants, too. For a most enjoyable day out we took the water taxi to Amalfi and had lunch there after exploring the Duomo and the town.
Thank you to Michelina and Umberto, and congratulations to Faith and Michele on the new arrival!
My husband and I just returned from our trip to Italy where we spent the last week at Villa Michelina. We were traveling with our friends and the Villa was perfect for two couples. We were welcomed with open arms and felt like we were part of the family from the moment we arrived. Faith and Michelina were responsive to our every need and surprised us almost daily with fruit from the gardens and local, delicious pastries and cheeses.
If you want to feel immersed in the Italian culture, instead of mearly being a tourist, then Villa Michelina is the place for you! We didn't have a car but between the convenient location, the eco-taxi and grocery car service, one wasn't needed (or recommended considering the narrow, windy Amalfi coast roads!).
It was the most beautiful, relaxing week starting our mornings drinking espresso on the flower-filled terrace overlooking the gardens and Mediterranean and ending them enjoying Michelina's homemade Limoncello.
Grazie mille Faith and Michelina!
My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful visit to Italy. We had the opportunity to spend a few weeks mostly on the Almalfi Coast. While the trip was memorable in so many ways, the highlight of our time was that spent at Villa Michelina in Marina di Praia. The villa was lovely with beautiful views of the sea and the steep crags within which Marina di Praia is nestled. The villa is filled with family artifacts such that a visitor feels that he or she is taken into someone's much loved home while visiting. The beds were comfortable, the beach and water access were very close, local food markets provided free shuttles, and nearby restaurants served delicious food. More important than all of that, and what made this part of the trip the most memorable for us, was the warm hospitality of Michelina, Faith and Michele. We were greeted with hugs and welcoming gifts and treated like family the entire time we were there. They could not have been more helpful with respect to any transportation or other needs we may have had and by the time we left we were fast friends. The highest praise we can give is that we can hardly wait to return to spend more time in this warm and lovely place.
The viila is superb in every way. It suited our needs perfectly. We are a couple who own 2 tourist boutique guest houses and have guests with us most of the time so on a holiday we value some private time and like to do a bit of cooking ourself and eat good food in restaurants.
It would suit families and 2 couples aswell without being at all crowded. It has everything you could need and the family are around so if you had any problem you would have no trouble contacting anybody even at night. They are in no way intrusive so have this balanced perfectly.
Michellana is an excellent cook by all accounts and although we didn't need her to cook for us we were given little treats of cake, pastries and fruit from the garden. The little harbor where the villa is has some of the best restaurants around. Delicious.
She recommended Il Piratta restaurant which we thought was exceptional and went twice but all food was very good better than the centre of Praino.
We did not have a car and didn't need one. We walked into the main town which is steep but not to far and of course beautiful scenery and good for you especially with all the fantastic food about. Further a field we went by bus very easy but some people may prefer a car if so there safe parking right there. If we return to the Amalfi close we would stay here again we much preferred it than other places we visited although all were nice for short visit. It was a privilege to stay in this beautiful place.
I stayed here with two of my friends at end of April/beginning of May. The season was only just starting, so weather not entirely warm and so we didn't get to fully avail of the wonderful outdoor space that the villa provides.
It has 3 separate seating areas, all of which you could dine out in our just enjoy the weather. There is also a small pool area - which unfortunately we didn't get to try as the weather wasn't hot enough.
The villa is in a good location as you can get to enjoy the coast before heading to the more populated Positano and Sorrento.
We travelled quite a lot by bus which was fine when it wasn't operating a Sunday/Bank holiday service.
Some great restaurants near by and the supermarket (which is expensive) provide a taxi to and from.
We didn't see really any nice places to have breakfast but I think that's an Italian thing!
Downside of the villa was the Wifi was very poor - it was frequently off line and so the charge of 25 euros is steep (this should really be included) and so having to pay for poor service is disappointing.
The cleaning charge of 100 Euros was also rather steep and we only stayed 4 night so this should have been taken into consideration. These two things leave a sour taste for me as typically these are either included or definitely a lot lot cheaper.
I would recommend but with caveats.
