“A homely, little gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2011

We loved la Perla. Our room with the balcony was large with a good size bathroom and jacuzzi bath. It wasn't fancy with opulent furnishings but they were more than adequate. The outlook was magnificent. The onsite parking was great. The bus stop was a few steps from the bottom of the driveway. Our room was always cleaned perfectly. The reception staff as well as the waiter were always helpful and obliging. The internet was good. They provided us with good information about the area and getting around on the buses and organised a tour of Pompei and Herculaneum for us with pick up from the hotel which we did not know was available. This saved us a long drive. Breakfast was more than ample and could be eaten either inside in the dining room or out on the balcony with the magnificent view. The restaurant served good wholesome food which was very enjoyable. I loved the fact that it was not in a large town The town itself was a short 20min walk along the Amalfi Rd. Not a great deal of shopping there but some nice spots for an afternoon or evening drink whilst watching the sunset and ofcourse some more restaurants. We also walked down to the beach below and found another restaurant right on the water. All in all a wonderful stay. I would not hesitate to go back in a second.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony.

We had a great few days here. It was a brilliant base for exploring the coastline. We had fantastic service, all friendly and helpful when we needed information on buses etc. The room was larger than expected with a jacuzzi bath included !! It wasnt luxurious with fancy bedding etc but everything was spotless and well laid out. Also we only asked for a sea view and ended up with a balcony with deckchairs. We were so happy with our choice.

We stayed in this hotel as part of a surprise trip for my husband's 70th birthday at the beginning of October when it was still relatively hot. I chose it because of its central location on the Amalfi coast outside the more well known resorts in the area and I was impressed with what other reviewers had said. Everything was as expected. The room was a good size with all the amenities, especially quiet air conditioning which worked! The staff couldnt do enough for us, even booking a room in Ravello when we decided to leave a day early for logistical reasons. Breakfast was plentiful, with fruits from the garden, and dinner was always well cooked by the chef/owner, so much so that we didnt bother going elsewhere as the view from the terrace, where meals are served, is gorgeous. There's a good bus service 50 yards from the hotel. We had a small car but you need a lot of nerve to drive on those roads. The beach is close by - pebbles rather than sand but well served with restaurants and umbrellas! It's a long walk down but there is a road for those with cars. For those who dont want to stir there's a sun terrace but no umbrellas that we could see. All in all, excellent value and very comfortable and friendly.

Room Tip: We asked for a sea view and were glad we did

We spent nine days at this hotel on the Amalfi coast, and our experience could not have been more delightful. The room was pristine and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking vast sea-views - breathtaking! We have tried many restaurants, but the gastronomy at La Perla is really outstanding! The breakfast is plentiful and fresh, and the experience of having it on the sea-view terrace is indescribable. This place has definitely restored our faith in Italian cuisine (we were beginning to think it was a myth!). EVERY meal was an exquisite treat. The staff was impeccably corteous and helpful: Enzo, thank you for the cactus fruits you picked for us! Davide and Maria helped us at every corner with info and arrangements, and Raffaele is the best all-around helper you can wish for. The seashore is only a pleasant walk away, with deep-blue clean waters, and do try the bruschetta at Il Pirata, too! The buses are reasonably reliable to go to Amalfi, Positano or Sorrento - but don't forget to flag them down, or else they may not stop. A must-see is Ravello, a real gem not far from Praiano. La Perla is located right in the heart of it all, without the crowds. What a vacation! We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The best deal is a room with a side sea-view, preferably on the side toward Furore, the next town o...

This is a wonderful hotel, with wonderfully caring and hard working staff, they even found me a tea pot at breakfast (yes I am the strange English lady ha ha). The views are stunning and if you don't mind the steps (well of course you do, this is the Amalfi coast) this is the perfect place to stay. Not fancy but clean, and very comfortable. The breakfast was varied and plentiful so too is the set tourist menu of dinner, make sure you have a bottle of san marco red wine off the menu - at €5 its perfect. Several great things about this hotel, it has a car park and the seta bus stops right outside.

Hotel La Perla, Praiano is on the main coast road about midway between Amalfi and Positano. From Rome, take the train to Naples, change trains to the Circumvesuviana line (via Pompeii) and continue to Sorrento. (Train timetables for both lines are easily found on the Internet). A bus departs regularly for the Amalfi coast, less than 50m from the Sorrento station entrance, directly in front of it. Head for Amalfi by bus, but get off just after Positano, about midway between Positano and Amalfi. Hotel La Perla is literally a few metres from the bus stop. The hotel is very comfortable, reasonably priced, and clean. The views are spectacular. This hotel is perfectly situated on the Amalfi coast but away from masses of tourists in Positano and Amafi (which are both a short bus ride away). If crowds and queues aren't for you, I highly recommend this hotel.

We weren't sure how difficult it was to get around from Praiano and wondered if we should be staying the busier Positano. I am so glad we didn't! This is a wonderful little inn, much better than the pictures, with dynamite views. Hoping the bus anywhere was easy and entertaining. What a magical place!
