The hotel La Pineta was a joy to stay in-very welcoming, traditional style for this region, good size rooms, warm and comfortable beds, you will get a good nights sleep-nice and quiet location in the bottom part of the town, short leisurely walk to the Ciampinoi gondola station in the mornings. We had a good sized twin room, plenty of storage place and decent sized bathroom/shower-plenty of hot water and clean towels, rooms were cleaned and beds made up every day.
The service we received was excellent-soon as we arrived we were made welcome, all the staff worked extremely hard and nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent and plenty of it, the breakfast buffet was great and it set you up for the day - breads-meats-cheeses-cereals-fruits-yogurts-coffee-tea and juices - you will not go hungry.
At breakfast you tick off what you want on the menu for the evening meal and there is a good choice-soups-pasta-meats-fish-cheese dishes-one of us in the group is a vegetarian and that was no problem, they said write down what you would like and there it was at dinner-good wine list too
All in all this was a great stay and i would go this hotel again. Selva is a great place to ski and this hotel was a little gem-cannot fault it.

I too having read some of the reviews prior to arrival was a little apprehensive. However, as with other reviewers we were also more than pleasantly surprised on arrival. The hotel itself is charming, spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming. Our room had been refurbished to a very high standard compared to some similar tariff hotels we have stayed in. Others in our group were in rooms yet to be updated however these were also more than adequate, being more traditionally furnished rather than actually in need of renovation. The rooms were of a very good size with more than adequate storage space and comfortable beds. We had a decent sized bathroom with shower cubicle/good strong shower, fresh towels and toiletries as needed and plenty of hot water. We also a a decent sized balcony with table and chairs and rooms were cleaned and made up every day. This is a family run hotel and the service we received was excellent - everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating, from reception staff to the dining room/waiting staff to the bar staff. I personally feel that all the staff worked very hard to build rapport with the guests - nothing was too much trouble. As per the previous review the food was excellent and caters very well for vegetarians as we experienced. You literally tell them what you want at breakfast and its there at dinner and you get plenty. This is by far the best dining experience I've had on similar and more expensively tariffed ski holidays - good wine list too and the apple strudel was amazing. The location of the hotel is fine - just a short walk - shorter than I was expecting actually, slightly uphill, from the square/bus stop at the bottom of town. However the walk is fine even in ski boots. From the square at the bottom of town, Hotel Oswald, you can hop on the regular ski buses to either the Ciampinoi or Dantercepies gondolas. There is also a bus which runs past the hotel which will take you down to the square, Hotel Oswald. Bus pass 7euros for the week available from the hotel. We also used the pass to travel by bus to Santa Christina and Ortisei - efficient/easy - short journey - hop on outside Hotel Oswald. In Ortisei which connects you to the Alp De Suisi ski area there is also a public swimming pool, massage centre etc. which I was advised by a user is very good. Selva itself is a beautiful little village with all the usual amenities. We sampled the bars - good apres ski - be prepared to play party games - very tyrolean !!! We didn't sample the restaurants as the food in the hotel was so good. All in all for hotel/Selva - excellent location. As for the ski area itself its easy to see why this area of the dolomites is a Unesco World Heritage site - it is beautiful. the Sella Ronda circuit is a must - but set of early to avoid the lift queues. In summary I would highly recommend the area and the hotel and would definitely return myself. This would also be an excellent stay for spring/summer/autumn walking and other mountain activities.

Having read some of the reviews prior to our arrival, I was a little apprehensive as to what we would find, I'm glad to say that disappeared shortly after arrival. I found this traditional hotel a charming little place with fantastic staff who made you most welcome. The room we had was more than adequate, comfortable beds, nice decoration and a good bathroom with shower cubicle. I had seen comments about no hot water at times, but we always had hot water, apart from the morning of our departure when at 5 o'clock it was cold. Then my partner told me she heard two baths being run about 3 o'clock in the morning, so that probable explains the lack of hot water. The hotel is set on the outskirts of town, and therefore it is very quiet at night, so you have no trouble sleeping. The room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels provided and there were toiletries if you needed them. The food we sampled during our stay was lovely, the breakfast buffet always had a good selection of choices, various breads, yogurts, cold meats, pate, cereal, hard boiled eggs and a selection of juices. The evening meal consisted of a lovely salad bar with plenty of choices, followed by your choice of starters, two choices of main course, with a vegetarian course for those who wanted it. Then finally you had a couple of choices from the dessert menu. All the food we tried during the week was great, I enjoyed everything from the pasta dishes to the meat and fish dishes. I have to say, I have not stayed in many hotels that actively encourage you to have seconds. One night we left the table without trying the dessert course and moved into the bar to play cards. One of the waitresses came in and said you haven't had a dessert, please try our sturdel. We agreed and she brought us a lovely apple strudel into the bar, and boy was it good. That's just one example of the staff in this hotel, they are all a great asset, and added to our enjoyment of the hotel and holiday. Yes the hotel is a little way out of town, but there is a skibus that passes the front door and will take you down the hill to the centre of town, from there it continues up to the slopes at Ski Nevis. On the other hand you can leave it at the Oswald hotel, change buses and head up to the Ciampinoi or Dantercepies ski lifts, the bus costs 7 euros for a weekly pass. So bottom line would I recommend this hotel to friends, YES, would I return myself YES.

Having read some very negative reviews I was rather dreading arrival at this hotel. What a surprise - it was charming, spotlessly clean and warm. The room was excellent with a good sized bathroom with unlimited hot water, clean towels and toiletries. The radiatior was not very warm on our arrival but a twiddle of the controls soon sorted that and the room was lovely and warm from then on. The beds were very comfortable and the location meant that there was no noise at night ensuring an undisturbed night's sleep.

The breakfast buffet was amazing and there was plenty of food to set you up for the day. The salad buffet in the evening was also superb and although we are both vegetarians the staff were able to provide a tasty alternative to the meat courses with no problem and the waiters were friendly and attentive. Those who complained about the food must have totally unrealistic expectations as the quality, quantity and choice of food was superior to many English hotels and don't forget YOU ARE NOT IN ENGLAND!
If you want burgers and chips then don't go to Selva.

Having left our skis at the Olga hire shop there was not problem in walking too and from the hotel in normal boots and the exercise was good for stretching the muscles.

All in all, the hotel and resort were great and I would most certainly stay there again next year. The only disappointing thing was the weather - 6 days with no sunshine but nobody can be blamed for that.

this hotel is situated at the lower end of the main resort,a ten minute gentle uphill walk (in trainers) to the ski shop(olgas) where crystal organized our skis from, which to be honest we did not mind too much, then a further 3 minutes in ski boots to the campanoi gondola.the bus combination for the same route can take considerably longer and requires a change of bus,not great by all accounts but we did not bother.
hotel looks very nice from the outside,as with all resort hotels following the tyrollean theme.reception on arrival was fine, although the hotel is predominently unenglish and not their first other language, but we never felt uwelcome.reception during our stay was usually closed but someone was always around when required.
we stayed three to the room which never felt cramped, was comfortable and warm enough to sleep in once the radiators were turned up,bathroom was very nice, good sized shower, basin,wc and bidet, and large radiator, towel changes as required!! hot water never a problem.cleaners kept the room spotless.
breakfast-buffet,not replenished enough if you are not an early bird, milk and juice cant keep up with guests but quickly replaced when asked for.normal cereal bread cheese and ham plus yoghurts and fruit, very good.
dinner-well,cant complain about quality, but to our tastes not what we expected to be offered up having stayed in italy for the last 3 years, salad buffet was great, starters pretty good, main meals odd,one main meal consisting of 2 hot dog sausages and a dollop of onion plus a few potato chunks, another consisted of 4 slices of cheese!!!!!yes a main meal, badged up as a cheese platter.we really expected more pasta during our trip, lots of veal and dried meat. puddings were fine.
waiting staff were very friendly and helpful, although dinners were brought out in a rather slow fashion, often seeming to be 3 minutes between different elements of the main meal,as they were assembled at the table rather than being brought out complete.
bar is quiet and chilly, but quite comfortable and relaxed, stefanie keeps control well!!
free wifi if you ask reception for the code!!!
heard no complaints about the ski and boot room, although we did not use them due to crystals arrangement with olgas(well run ski shop, good reports of quality skis, klaus keeping ours in great shape throughout the week)
afternoon apres ski,we went to corona hotel bar, full of exuberent germans, good value and even found ourselves trying to learn some of their songs to sing along to,always packed with excellent bar staff service.
nighttime,we tried murphys irish bar-found this a little cramped, and luiskeller basement bar-much younger crowd, busy and lively, yellos bit quiet early on but very modern, then we resorted to corona again, much quieter for the evening session.
we found the hotel to be great accomodation,a bit of a walk, but it was nice to get our legs walking before and after skiing so did not mind at all.
we would have no hessitation about staying there again!!!

If you are on a ski holiday you need to quickly sort out the 0900 bus to the village or the Saslong ski run to start the day. Getting home generally results in a up hill walk but not too bad if you are fit. 10 mins from the village centre.
Hotel cold at times because the heating goes on and off during the day and evening presumebly because they expect you to be out or down in the restaurant. Good sized rooms.
Food reasonable for the price but don't ask for cheese for the main course or you get three big lumps of cheese thats it. Other options are available and on the whole the food was nice and promptly served. Excellent breakfasts and salad bar in an evening.
The bar is a bit gloomy and the rooms at the back of the hotel do not have a view. the staff are not particularly friendly but they speak only a little English - but hey we are in Italy and a little German or Italian helps thaw the atmosphere.
On the whole don't be put off because the price is right. I would stay there again.

We spent a week here recently and although they would have been alerted that we were going to be late there was no food provided for us. The lady in charge could not speak English and never smiled, nor did the waiters. The room was adequate but very cold. I had to wear socks and put a tee shirt on to keep warm in bed. I then asked for an extra duvet and complained to the rep. The meals were always rushed and nothing replenished unless you asked for it and the coffee always luke warm. How do you fancy a plate of cheese as a main course for dinner? Need I say more ?
