Lovely Setting

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 6, 2019
Lovely room in a modern hotel with the Cloisters proving an unexpected and stunning setting. Location was ideal for a stroll into the charming town centre and onto to the lakeside. Hotel has its own secure parking a couple of minutes away which would make this a great base for touring. Exceptional staff too. Oh, and the breakfast room(s) is massive and has great decore. We loved it.

Booked on the morning of our stay. The hotel has some decent facilities especially for kids. Was good to have a swing and play area.
The hotel is a bit dated to be honest. The fitting for the shower hose holder was broken and you could see a lot of neglect around the room. The room was relatively spacious and the hotel had a good location. It was average but could be a lot better especially with such beautiful gardens

I chose this hotel to be my base in a convenient part of Lago Maggiore. Transport connection in that part of Italy are somewhat strange (and most of them - completely unknown to every online tool starting from Google Maps and ending with Rome to Rio, but still the area is serviced by some public transport, and if you don't expect frequency and speed like in Germany or the UK, you can go from almost anywhere to almost everywhere - considering you have enough time and don't expect to visit more than 2-3 places per day.

That said about the area, let me say also something about the hotel.

It's easy to find, about 10 minutes walking from the port and the bus station, and even closer to Intra's centre. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and good looking for a 3-star hotel. The check-out time is a little non-standard (10 am) but if you ask at the reception, they will most likely accept something like 11:30 (at least that's what I needed). Wifi is working and fast enough, air conditioning is extremely silent and also working well...

The hotel definitely won't make you say "wow", but it's good enough so that you don't feel you made a compromise. I would stay there again, if I'm traveling to the same place.

Hotel is a typical hotel for mainly elderly people, probably returning each year and groups. Reception is friendly. Hotelroom was large, with a walk-in closet and balcony. Unfortunately, the bathroom was smaller the the walk-in closet...Everything is stacked very close, so you hit yourself all the time. In the sink there is hardly any waterpressure; this is better in the shower. Restaurant is a typical large group place; the food is just ok, but nothing special. No parking next to the hotel; they have a fenced one just one street behind the hotel, but it is mostly full. Hotel is not next to the lake, nor has a nice view from the rooms.

This well run, large hotel in the town centre and boasts a lovely relaxing garden, hidden from the surroundings.
Rooms are larger than average and very comfortable.
Breakfast is excellent as to is the evening fixed price menu, and extensive salad buffet.
Staff are very helpful and many speak English.
The lakeside promenade we reached by car, but for walkers it is down hill about a 5 minute away.
We had reserved a parking spot, and I would strongly recommend this for people with disability.

Room tip: Room overlooking the garden.

I slept there for 6 nights as part of a group tour, and therefore know nothing of the prices, but I suppose it was cheap.

The interior is high standard. My room was well furnished and nice and quiet. TV with many channels. Free WiFi, but signal was mostly weak. I had problems with the AC some nights. When it wasn't running, the room had warm air standing still, and when it was on, I got a much too cold breeze and high noise.

Personel mostly kind and spoke English and a little German. Various musical events in the yard. Fair prices in the bar, but mojito and pina colada was partly prefabricated and did not taste good.

Breakfast and salad buffet was delicious. Dinner mostly good. You can buy a bottle of wine and have it stored away in your name, which is very convenient.
