Stunning setting, beautiful hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 25, 2023
The Grand Hotel Majestic has an absolutely stunning location on Lake Maggiore. It was a perfect for a family wedding. I stayed in a lake facing room with a king sized bed that was comfortable and clean. Breakfast consisted of fruit, cereals, scrambled eggs, Bacon and what tasted like freshly made
baked goods. Omelettes and fresh juice are an extra charge. Service is only indoors so if you wish to enjoy the morning temps outside, you need to order coffee inside and take it outside with your food and cutlery. There are a few things to know as a traveler. None were problematic just worth a mention so you can plan ahead. First, there's no iron in the room nor are there any available upon request. Rather, there is a chargeable pressing service, with a with a surcharge for express service - which was super fast. I believe dresses are about 12 euro with shirts about 7. Second, there is no coffee maker in the room. The coffee at the bar and at breakfast is amazing but if you would like a cup before facing the world, this needs to be ordered. You will need to pack conditioner as shampoo, body wash, and lotion are available in the room but conditioner is not. The products provided were great but I walked to the pharmacy for conditioner - about 5 mins away. Finally, room temps are centrally controlled so if you find your room is on the warm side, you need to request a lower temperature from the reception. All in all a lovely place and would love to visit again.

Room Tip: Pack conditioner and clothes that don't wrinkle.

Set on the waterfront of gorgeous Lago Maggiore, the Hotel San Gottardo has beautiful vistas and large rooms. Of course, being cheap, I got a side facing room with the opportunity to gaze at a nearby wall, rather than the autumnal mist floating gently over the placid lake. It didn't matter as I was away all day on a trail race (the excellent UTLM which flags off in Verbania). The promenade outside is picturesque, the ferries across the lake are close at hand, and the Friday market is a stone's throw away.

The wifi worked, the the lift worked, the staff were friendly, breakfast was just as I expected, and the hotel parking was nearby and secure. Public parking in Verbania is a nightmare - white spaces are free and very rare, blue ones are paid short stay only, and the yellow ones are residents only and threaten 24 hour tow away for violations. So, the hotel's rustic carpark is free and is a God send.

The set menu in the hotel restaurant is delicious and good value for dinner, FYI. The waiter was professional and helpful, the roast beef carpaccio starter was delizioso and a carafe of the local wine eased by trail-worn joints.

we visited this hotel for a wedding.
The rooms are reasonably priced but relatively old inside, with a sea view. The breakfast is poorly organised and not very rich, but you can park your car for free 10 minutes away.

The Pallanza part of Verbania had a distinct early summer flair when we visited at the end of May. Fortunately the Giro d'Italia had left town earlier in the day and clean-up operations on the roads were almost terminated 3h later.
We had a large comfortable room on the 4th floor with a splendid view over the Lago Maggiore.
Breakfast was very nice but my recommendation to the cuisine ends there. I had rarely been served with a less appetizing dried out barely warm fish dish than at the evening menu of the Hotel. When covid restrictions will allow indoor restaurants to be open HEAD OUT.

Ideally located on the lakefront, with gorgeous views and directly across from the landing for the lake ships, this is the perfect place to start exploring Lago Maggiore. Pallanza is nowhere as touristy and hectic as Stresa so is a good base if you’re wanting something calmer.

The Gottardo is one of two grand old hotels that are joined together. Our room was large, with lovely high ceilings and great sound insulation: we couldn’t hear a thing from the street. We didn’t have a view (as we hadn’t paid for a lake view) but there were nice big windows opening out to the lanes beside the hotel with something I’d never seen before: electric self-opening shutters! Clean and nicely decorated.

Breakfast was a very nice buffet with cakes, cappuccino, scrambled eggs etc. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff.

My wife and I were on a motorcycling tour of the Alps and Italian lakes. We stayed for two nights. The hotel appears to have been refurbished to a very high standard. We had a room overlooking the lake and it could not be faulted. The secure basement car parking was also much appreciated. Otherwise, the standard of service and breakfast/dining offer were all very good and location was very handy. Lastly, the price for what was offered was very reasonable. A most enjoyable stay.

Room tip: Overlooking lake was good.
