We have stayed here before so we knew what we were getting. Fantastic private hotel which is immaculate. Great location and lovely breakfast.
The sad thing this occasion is we came out of season, that meant we arrived in October. What this meant to us is the air conditioning had been centrally switched off by the hotelier. The bedrooms heated up during the day being on the top floor and with only a fan it still meant temperatures of 26 degrees. Very difficult to sleep and when we opened the windows to cool the room, (used the window nets) we ended up getting bitten badly by mosquitoes. Give you an idea we had two rooms and the three of us have 22 bites. This completely ruined our stay and there is truly no logic in turning off individual Ac units in bedrooms just because of a date! We weren’t made aware, nowhere was this stated on hotel website or booking information and we won’t be returning.
If like us you like AC, be warned this hotel turns it off on October the 1st. Madness.

Dear Justin , thank you for your review and for your second and last visit as you say You've been lucky you found 5 days in really sunny October. The hotel has not decided to turn the air conditioning off but change in heating from 1 October to 1 May The outdoor temperatures during your stay from 3rd October to 8th were 10 degrees in the night and 22 degrees during the warmest hours. Most customers have requested extra blankets in this period so we feel they are more listening to the needs of many than to the subjective demands of a person. Madness is to see all customers with long trousers and heavy jackets and only you in sea clothes ....... maybe all the bites are due precisely on your arms and legs discovered and you've taken them around the city or in the park What the air conditioner indicated was the maximum set temperature for heating. This and what was due and good return to the UK Luca

Just returned to Hotel Tirrenia since our first visit in 2009. Because our Ryanair flight was cancelled we have actually stayed twice in two weeks at the beginning and end of our hols.

The standard of cleanliness is so high, the rooms and hallways are immaculate.

The breakfast each morning is plentiful and the fruit is lovely and fresh. Ok the food does not vary (some mornings there are sausages!) but there is lots of choice and the scrambled eggs and bacon are very nicely cooked. The breakfast lady is still grumpy/unsmiling but very efficient, she serves great coffee so we don't mind!

The bathrooms have now been refurbished in the rooms we used (311 and 312) and we enjoy sitting on the marble balcony watching the world go by.

I had an issue with the wifi but Luca helpfully sorted it for me.

The property is just a few yards from the beach and the beautiful promenade, great designer shops and lots of restaurants open in the evenings. The train and bus stations are within 15 mins walking distance.

Great hotel, highly recommended.

Room Tip: always book a balcony if available

Elegant compact hotel with attention to detail in a central location. Spent one night to get away from the bustle of Florence ,breath the sea air and feel the refreshing mediterranean waters.Could easily have spent longer. The staff were helpful and pleasant, good breakfast selection and comfortble clean rooms. Go for the partial sea view with balcony.Hope to return for a longer stay.

Room Tip: The room with the partial sea view and balcony is a good choice

The hotel itself is perfectly nice and Art Deco downstairs which filled me with hope that this hotel would be lovely.

Unfortunately I ended up with a musty room with a view of somebody else's bins.

The bathroom was teeny with a sort of shower curtain in one corner which at just 5'6 I struggled to fit into.

My parents room was LOVELY. Beautiful bathroom and balcony with a decent view. That would have received an excellent review.

My room however was quite old, dated and actually smelt for the first day or two until I aired it out (which of course introduced a load of mosquitos!)

The staff were very pleasant if a bit brusque sometimes at breakfast and they made me a lovely gluten free selection basket which was very much appreciated.

However at one point the water to our floor was switched off for 'maintenance' without warning. My Mum was actually in the shower at the time! She is very polite however and simply asked how long it would be until the water returned. The manager told us 20 minutes so we went out swimming and were joined an hour and a half later by my Dad who said the water had been out for over an hour NOT 20 minutes.

No notice of this sort of thing in a hotel is unacceptable. And this is what earned the Tirrenia an average to very good style review in the end.

Dear guest
thank you for your review !
Some clarifications have to be made because it is not quite clear.
Your reservation was for a double room with balcony and a single standard so different prices and different size too so not comparable but in all details or descriptons is no mentioned a sea view.
The lack of water was not maintenance but a failure and the first thing in case of water loss to an upper floor is to close the water! if we warned all guests we would flood the hotel
However, immediately repaired and the water was only missed on your floor for 45 minutes between 11.15 and 12.00 when 99% of customers were out on the beach .... except your mother and your father !!
Sorry, but things can happen and are involuntary but readily managed and resolved so that nobody except you has noticed it.

Thanks and regards
Luca Lazzeretti
PS : Your toilet picture is the same as our photo posted on the booking site ....... nothing new

We have just returned home after 10 nights in the Tirrenia. I knew the reviews were good from reading here but this hotel really is excellent!

The hotel is spotless, both in the bedrooms and in the reception area. The rooms were cleaned everyday to a very high standard.

The breakfast was also excellent - delicious hams/salami/cheese, or scrambled egg and bacon, or fruit, cereal or yoghurt. The food was really good and well presented, with every type of condiment you can think of, and fresh juice or coffee. They also had a huge variety of teas. And of course the pastries and cake was also delicious.

The staff were so friendly. This seems to be a family run hotel, as there wasn't much changeover in staff. The man who checked us in was just excellent - friendly, helpful and offering advice and maps when we arrived. All the other staff were also friendly and pleasant. We didn't have great weather during our stay and the staff offered us umbrellas when we were heading out, which I thought was a nice touch.

The bedroom was a good size, with a good size bathroom and shower. We didn't have a sea view but there are some of these rooms available. There's a lovely little garden at the back also.

The location is absolutely perfect - very close to the beach and bars/restaurant and shopping. It is also around 15 minutes walk from the train station that takes you to Airport, Lucca, Pisa, Florence etc. (These were all the places we visited).

This hotel is excellent value for money and we would definitely stay here again if we return to Viareggio.

Thank you Hotel Tirrenia for a lovely first trip to Italy!
