We stayed in Viareggio in the last leg of our holiday to Tuscany. We planned Viareggio for the beaches and after 2 days of sunny weather we were hit by storms. After the weather cleared one evening where we had been apartment bound for the day, we decided to stretch a little further outside of Viale Daniele Manin and crossed over the bridge at the end of the strip. After passing a number of restaurants we settled on Trattoria Il Capitano. This is something we would not regret. I won't get into the details of the menu but the food was second to none (this is spoken by a person who is not particularly fond of seafood), as was the wine. The only thing that was arguable better than the food was the service, the waiter had really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed out meal and we really left with the impression that this meant a lot to him. A great experience and saved us from what otherwise would have been a wasted day.
