We booked for 7 nights in July through Jet2 which rate this hotel as 3 Stars, which is probably correct. It was about a 40 minute transfer time from quite a hectic Naples airport and it took us a while and quite a long walk with cases to find the coach. The hotel like a lot of the hotels along the coastline is built into the cliff side around one of the two bays in Vico Equense. It is approx. 200m from the train station which is ideal and cheap to get into Sorrento, Naples, Vesuvius, Herculaneum etc. The views are superb and from the terraces you get to experience some great sunsets.
The hotel is a bit of a labyrinth and it takes a long time to get used to the layout and learn some of the shortcuts through the building. There are a lot of steps in whichever way you choose. There is a lift but strangely it doesn’t service all levels so the reception is one or two levels down from the road, depending where you enter, which is a pain dragging your cases up and down especially in the really hot weather. To make it worse we had to pull our cases and extra 200m uphill to the train station upon our departure without any assistance, because the coach for some reason would not pick up at the hotel gate. (a big mistake by Jet2 which needs rectifying)
The room was clean and functional and although a lot of the rooms have had a makeover or part makeover there is still a lot to be done here as parts of the hotel has seen better days. The TVs in the room only have one English channel which is CNN. Not really a big deal for us as we weren’t in much anyway, but might be for some people. Beds were quite firm and we had an unusual mix of pillows. Every day the room was made up with clean sheets and we had an abundance of towels and toiletries.
There is a bar which is along an enclosed, air-conditioned terrace which seem to be open most times. Trying to find the barman was sometimes a bit of an ordeal with other members of staff pitching in whenever they could. Bit of a problem on the barman’s only day off as no one then seemed to know where anything was or what they were doing.
We stayed half-board, which was the only option offered. We noticed that a lot of the Italian guests were bed and breakfast only and there would not be an option of full board or all-inclusive as the hotel does not serve meals at lunch time. The main town of Vico Equense is only a ten minute walk away where there is a good mix of bars and restaurants etc. The breakfast was good with a reasonable selection however the evening meal although good food needs to have a better menu selection. The fact that we were also asked to select our meals for the following evening was a bit disappointing.
There is no swimming pool at the hotel and limited terraces to sunbathe on. There is a Jacuzzi which will take about six people but the thought of having what essentially was a bath in someone else’s dirty water didn’t appeal and the colour of the water on occasions confirmed this.
The beach is a walk down quite a steep windy road and takes about 15 minutes once you’ve negotiated either sets of steps at the back of the hotel. We found a shorter route by going down through the carparks but it is even steeper and the carpark staff don’t like you doing it. There is a free bus service which we never managed to quite work out. You need to book it at the hotel reception, although nobody was checking on the bus. The times were a bit hit and miss and the service only runs between the train station and the beach. Sun loungers and parasols are free to Jet2 users but you have to get a voucher from reception. Make sure you get a “Jet2”voucher otherwise you will be asked to pay when you get there. Towels are also provided free of charge from reception.
The hotel staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful and overall we enjoyed our stay. However this is not a place to stay if you have any mobility issues. The hotel represents good value for money but needs to gear itself up a bit more for British tourists. I’m guessing that this is the first year Jet2 have used this hotel, so hopefully things should improve.

Just back from a weeks stay at the Hotel Oriente in Vico Equense. Lovely hotel and the setting is fantastic.
We went with our very good friends to experience our first Italian holiday experience. Upon arrival our coach dropped us off at the top of the hotel. No assistance/help to take cases to reception and then onto room. Our friends requested to change rooms immediately as the view was of the hotel car park. Another room was allocated within the hotel and 4/5 terraces/steps to climb up and again no assistance.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the food was acceptable and a good choice. The evening meals when we dined in the hotel were ok and a good veg buffet was always available.

To get to the beach you can either walk down from the hotel which is a very very steep walk down and up or take the free shuttle/cattle bus up and down. It was never made too clear from the reception where we can get this bus from so we sorted this out ourselves.

The sunbed vouchers that are free worked well, the beach is very nice with a good swimming bay that is marked out.

We took the train to Sorrento one day and then to Naples another day. Easy to use and very cheap. The train station is a five min walk from the hotel.

Mount Vesuvius was fantastic and Herculaneum was just mind blowing .

The weather was mid 30's. Air con in rooms and hotel great. Wifi not so good but worked.

Bit disappointing that we had to walk our own cases from the hotel to the railway station (two trips) in 30 degrees of heat.

Giovanni was fantastic, helpful and his staff could not do enough for you.

There are great places to eat out in the town which is a ten min walk away.

Simon

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We have very few negative things to say. Gorgeous views, close to the beach. Lovely rooms that are cleaned daily, we appreciated the electric shutters. All the staff are friendly and can’t do enough. Special thanks to Giovanni who is an excellent member of staff who is clearly passionate about his job.

We went half board and were surprised with the quality of the food, no usual all inclusive rubbish but gorgeous prepared meals. Initially we were confused by having a set menu to choose from each evening but loved this! It was like a sit down intimate meal every night. Breakfast was lovely, freshly make omelettes or eggs how you wanted them. We were surprised that at least one drink wasn’t included with your evening meal but, it’s a minor issue. The staff member who made the cocktails (did not get his name) was lovely, passionate about creating drinks and attentive.

No pool at the hotel but we appreciated this because it means you avoid the loud areas where people are packed in side by side on loungers. The hot tub is incredible! Views views views and, it is the perfect temperature to relax away the hours.

We weren’t made aware but, there is a shuttle bus to the beach AND free vouchers for beds and umbrellas so ask for these!! We wish we had known.

Overall, lovely stay! Would certainly return and as a special little memory we actually got engaged on this holiday at this hotel.
