Review of Parco Archeologico

Parco Archeologico
Reviewed December 9, 2017

this has an entrance fee of 5euro. Compared to Pompeii, does not look like its worth paying an entrance fee and going in. But the park that it is in is very beautiful. Worth walking up to it. There is a water fountain too right opposite to the site.

The city has a lot to offer in terms of sights--not so much here. It is basically a walk through the park. We would not recommend this as an important stop while you are in this beautiful little city.

If you feel you just have to do this site, here are some cautionary notes. The climb up the steep cobble stone walk is a bit tricky if you have on your boots. Cowboy boots may look good, but they ain't make for walking here! The stones are slick and you have to go slow. Make sure you have good rubber soled shoes on this walk! The site is a bit of a walk from the "pick up" point--allow at least 30 minutes of leeway to get back safely. The signage is almost non existent--read up on what you are going to see PRIOR to the trip! There is no fee to visit this site.

Archeological site of Etruscan/ Roman temple. Quite limited remains are still visible. The explanation (in English) is not so clear, and it is difficult to imagine how the buildings may have looked.

The Roman cistern was worth a visit, although it is 8m down a tiny spiral staircase! The ruins were very much a working archeological site I thought. There are a couple of boards giving information on the site but it requires some imagination to really appreciate it. I don't think it's worth the entrance fee unless you have a discount card. The park itself is worthwhile for the views but it is a steep climb to get up there.

Although there is not much to see on the site itself, except the foundations of ruined Roman and Etruscan buildings, the Roman cistern is well-preserved and definitely worth a visit. The site also offers a beautiful view on the old town.
