Took a day to walk to this cemetery and it was simply an amazing site to see. Very worth the walk. Up on a hill at the top of Suresnes, it over looks most of Paris. Well maintained, very peaceful and gives you food for thought at the site of all those graves.

Close to Mount Valérien (center of the French Résistance during WWII) this cemetery is a hidden gem in Suresnes. Small, well kept, it offers a moment of reflection in the hustle and bustle of nowadays life. In front there is a terrace with a great view on Paris.

So you've taken a selfie of yourself from the Champ de Mars or the Trocadero, right? Think about seeing the Paris basin from outside Paris, where the skies are often blue. Suresnes is a safe suburb located just west of Paris. It's conveniently located on the SNCF train line that you can take from Gare Saint-Lazare (Paris) to Suresnes Mont-Valerien. You may have visited Père Lachaise, or the Colleville in Normandy, but have you been to an American Cemetary far from the battlefields, near the hospitals? Visit Suresnes American Cemetary for the view and for the history. You'll learn something and have some nice photos to remember your trip to France. There's a beautiful walking path "Promenade Jacques Baumel" that skirts the Fortress of Mont Valerien with lots of panoramic views,, a parcours sportif, and easy access to the horse riding area, tennis courts, and the local rugby stadium. The train from Saint-Lazare only takes 20-ish minutes to get to Suresnes/Mt.-Valerien, so why not visit?

This was the fifth American Cemetery of World War I we visited in France. Just like the other four, this is a beautiful and yet sobering site.

Easy to get to from central Paris via the Gare St. Lazare station and using the local commuter trains rather than the RER or Paris Metro. Take the L train from Gare St. Lazare to Gare de Suresnes/Mont Valerien and walk uphill. These are soldiers from the USA who fought in WW1 in 1917-1918 and includes one of Cornell University's most famed alumni, Willard Straight, whom the student union is named after.
