Hotel is kind of neglected. Smelling old inside. Room and furniture are extremely basic. No lift. Swimming pool on the pictures is not working. Free parking. Nearly 15 min walk to the lake side. We refused from the breakfast.

This hotel was not as cheap as hoped. breakfast was a decided anti climax. I was told "normal French basic breakfast for 6 euro". They weren't kidding a croissant and a coffee. The room was nice but no shower. The loo was in a cupboard and the air vent didn't vent! But the bed was comfy and the TV worked with good quality. Owners were nice and helpful and they were very happy to accommodate my bike in their personal garage.

On the plus side: cosy little lobby with nice atmosphere, rather spacious rooms and the location steps away from the lake and town center.
There is more to say about the inconveniences though.
Don't rely on their wifi - it only works in the common places. We had to come down in the lobby to access the internet and I saw a lot of other people doing that.
The rooms are extremely noisy - I could actually distinguish words our upstairs neighbours were saying and they were not shouting.
During the winter, the heating is at a minimum and the rooms get chilly during the night. One corner room was really really cold and both people sleeping there got a cold.
Their policy of forbidding to eat in the rooms is rather annoying, especially when you have children who will need a snack now and then.
Also, the coffee served at breakfast was absolutely terrible!

Room Tip: Don't get their breakfast! Especially since there are plenty of places to get a proper breakfast...

No english speaking hotel.Breakfast 9 euro each but not satisfing at all.it would worth no more than 4 euro each....room dirty with some stain of blood on the duvet, toilet dirty and very very old furniture!!Internet doesn't work in the room but only in the lounge because, the owner said, that the wall is too thick for the wireless connection!!!do we live in 2013 or no?another network?why not!!!!but the worst thing is that at night the room was really cold even if the heater was on.I simply do not have words....no good value for money. It is a 3 stars but not for the european standard....be careful.

Stayed overnight in room #2. Ideal for a family of 4 to 5. Rooms are quaintly decorated. Linnens and towels are clean. My only suggestions are: a curtain must be set up onto the glass bathroom door for privacy, an overhead shower holder, and reparation of the exhaust system in the toilet. The reception area is cozy but there's seldomly an attendant present. "A" for the location. Situated in between the lake and the city center. There's a very good traditional restaurant called Geromoise Brasserie that's a short walk away (this one's a must-try).
I haven't had the occassion to mingle much with the owner but he seems proper. However, I agree to what the other reviews insinuate, he has a "cunning" air. As when I paid the room he mistakenly wrote 10 euros more than what's due. He appologetically corrected it when I pointed out. I was hoping it was truly an honest mistake. All in all, very nice property but management needs improving.

Holiday spoilt by a serious dispute over room charges and the hugely intransigent attitude of the owners. There are so many lovely places in France where this is not the case that you can easily avoid this one. Gerardmer itself is not a lovely town but the lake is very pleasant and the surrounding countryside is astounding.

There are plenty of better options in the area. We won't risk this place again.

Family run hotel - had junior suite for 4 of us, clean and simple though nice decoration. Only oddity - intervening doors have glass panels so towels were useful!
Welcome friendly and helpful, breakfast good (light continental but ample), close to lake (5 minutes walk), small swimming pool. Sorry to leave, will return!
Loved Gerardmer -big enough for facilities but small enough to be pleasant - lake good for swimming, walks, watersports
PS had good crepes at La Bolee in centre (rue F Mitterrand)
