On the outskirts of Saintes and near the hospital we discovered this place. It doesnt look good from the outside but go in and be delighted. An excellent spacious and warm eating area, good food and brilliant service.

We ordered the two menu fixee at 21 Euros each and this came with tapas as a starter and then a main course. We had tarta espagnol, fish rillettes, fried chorizo and mushrooms as the tapas starter - these were excellent. This was followed by the chicken brochette with a good salad and fries and finally dessert. The food was brilliant, the service excellent and it was really relaxing.

So worth the visit

Thank ESVincent

Two visits to this restaurant in quick succession on visits to a sick relative in the CHU Saites which is right opposite Le Cosy - could not be more convenient.
We found the restuarant from earlier TA reviews and can attest to their comments. From the ouside it looks like a warehouse and indeed the inside not much better with sparse decoration. However the food more than makes up for it! The house specialty are tapas and prawns/scallops on wooden plancas. The duck was lovely and salads, especcially serrano wonderful. Creme brulee out of the top drawer.
Diddicult to find from the Paul Doumer side, but easier from the hospital side, plenty of parking.
Very friendly staff and very busy, except at weekends. Might be a bit out of the way but worth the detour.

Whilst staying in the little town of Saintes on the way to Italy we asked the concierge of the hotel for a decent restaurant to eat. She recommended Le Cosy. It was only a few hundred metres away.
So we went down. It was a lovely restaurant with an open airy feel to it & a lovely deck outside to which we took our preferred seats. The menu was all in French, but I was able to translate for my friends as I do know a little of the local lingo.
The cuisine is a variance of nouvelle & traditional.
There are also budget meals & meals for the kids.
I ordered the steak which was grilled to perfection, my friend had the fish f which I tasted & was superb, his son had a children's meal of which he left nothing.
We shared a nice bottle of local Beaujolais & topped it off with the house Creme Brule which was so good I was tempted to get another.
The lass we had serving spoke very good English & was very helpful & polite.
All in all a great restaurant & staff.

This is not in the centre but tucked away beside the hospital but well worth seeking out. It was very quiet as it was a week night. the staff are very patient with our very bad school French. I had rabbit for the first time and it was delicious my husband tried the tapas and said it was very good. We sat on the terrace as it was a lovely evening and the wine as you would expect was excellent.
