First the good stuff... Love this place, this is a welcomed return of Les Moulins. The area lacks affordable and nice places to go to and it is especially beautiful to come for a sunset apero and a round of petanque! We came with friends and also stayed for dinner, we wanted to try as many items on the menu as possible. The place is lovely, casual modern yet still sexy, french style. Our servers were attentive and caring btw!
If you go you MUST order the Lamb dish for two, it was delicious. Great quality french lamb, slow cooked for 7 hours, a wonderful dish to share! Greta starters were the Tomato tart as well as the calamaris.
Now the not so good stuff...I started with a classic, asparagus with a poached egg. Simplicity and usually not easy to mess up. However my egg was as cold as the refrigerated asparagus on my plate. rather disappointing. At least the egg should be freshly poached and still warm.I had the Sea Bream and was also disappointed, it smelled fishy and was somewhat dry, we could tell this was not a freshly bought or delivered piece of fish, but frozen... My husband is a chef, so we know a thing or two about ingredients... this fish was not what one would expect from such a lovely place... The Tuna Tataki was not bad, but also not amazing, I won't be ordering that and the fish again... My husband had the veal chop, tasty but this too was just ok, could have been a thicker cut and better quality.
Also this is not a place that is going to build a reputation for their desserts, simply avoid. Desserts can be fresh and palette cleansing but theirs were heavy and not very well executed. Keep it simple dear Les Moulins, a wonderful apple tart or something with fruits in season, use better chocolate for your chocolate cake too, please!
There was a strange apple based dessert I ordered that came out the color green of the wicked witch of the west from OZ, that was very off putting already. I did not finish it needless to say.
I am hoping that since they just opened that there are still a few things to fine tune, this place and their staff deserve it... but I also think that clients deserve the freshest and best ingredients. Does not have to be expensive nor fancy, just fresh good product cooked well and people are happy.
Regardless of my failed menu choices, we left happy, and well looked after but I think they can and should do better. I will be back and hope there is progress. This is a lovely place with great ambience! Bon Chance!
