We came on the 7th of April for our first anniversary celebration. The whole experience was excellent, the staff were attentive and the thoughtful extras added to our experience. The food was beautiful, we had the goats cheese / crab starters followed by the lamb cutlets / fillet beef. All of it superb and not forgetting the tomato and tarragon soup and the pallet cleansing sorbet! We just wanted to say a big thank you to all involved and I hope we will be back soon.

Having heard about Kathton House for some time, I had been keen to visit. A birthday celebration gave a good opportunity and we were not disappointed. Situated in a very ordinary High Street with no convenient parking (but if one asks the restaurant, they can make a good suggestion!), the inside is bright and nicely decorated.

Service is friendly, the lunch menu extensive (5 choices for each course) and the portions well sized (we definitely didn't go home hungry!). We both had the same starter - warm pigeon breast with kumquats & toasted hazelnuts, which was light and refreshing. For the main course we had the braised venison - a lovely dish with a rich red wine jus - and escalope of pork (which really melted in the mouth). For dessert we both had the excellent Baileys Bread & Butter pudding.

We drank sparkling water, and finished with coffee each and the bill came to a reasonable (given the quality of the cooking) £68 plus a tip.

First visit since under new ownership. Having failed to get a table on a number of Friday/Saturday evenings, opted for a weekday lunch. Welcome was very friendly, service very good. Everything was as it used to be, especially the food - very good . Can not fault this small but exceptional dining experience.

Kathton House has changed ownership since the last review I wrote on it. But no change in the excellent service and cuisine. It still gets top marks as far as I'm concerned. Not the cheapest eatery around but not the most expensive either. And with the quality of food and service it's value for money in my book. Food is mid range to fine dining.
