We needed a hotel for one night in Bingen, and I was having problems finding info on-line. I e-mailed the Bingen TI office, and they recommended the Rheinhotel Starkenburger Hof as a hotel that is close to the train station and also close to the boat docks. We were coming in on the train and taking a cruise the next morning, so this hotel was in the perfect location. It was easily within walking distance from the train, but we took a taxi as my father in law has bad knees. The taxi fare was just over 5E, that was very reasonable. The boat docks are within sight of the hotel and a very short walk.
The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The windows all looked new and kept out the train noise very well. Breakfast was good, typical German fare.
We didn't have any problems with the receptionist smoking, and the staff was all very pleasant. Bingen is a charming little town and we would have liked to explore it further. The recepionist recommended dinner at the nearby Alte Rathaus and it was one of the best meals we had in Europe.
