We chose the option of a four course dinner included in our tariff, but whilst it was an excellent meal with a wonderful aspect over the Rhine, there was absolutely no choice for the main course or other courses which was disappointing. The bed was extremely hard and access to the bathroom required bending over to avoid hitting your head which we did in fact do several times. The breakfast was a VERY crowded buffet with an extremely disappointing choice of food compared to much cheaper places we have stayed. Although we enjoyed the stay we do not think it is good value for he price paid.

Room tip: Choose a room with good access to bathroom

Perfect in every way. Booking was very simple. What we loved: Afternoon coffee on the lovely terrace overlooking the beautiful Rhein; spectacular room; gourmet dinner with very friendly service; watching the morning mist rise over the river; delicious breakfast. . . .the only bad part - we had to leave. . . .Looking forward to our next visit.

Beautiful castle (schloss) along the Rhine river. Yes you spend a night in a real castle. Had a 6 course dinner, had a medieval decorated room. Yes it is expensive, but worth it! Sleep in a canopy bed, had a ‘living room’, 2 built in extra wall beds (we did not need them), a beautiful bathroom. There were extra touches such as sherry waiting our arrival, fresh fruit in room, bubble bath in soaking tube, free mini bar to name a few. We just got here so we’ve not had a chance to stroll the gardens. It is located in Oberwesel. If you are coming to the area, it’s a ‘must see & do’. If you’re traveling via a Viking Ship, this will not work for you.

The hotel is a step back to medieval times. If you want to have an experience of a lifetime, this hotel meets the requirement. The views were breathtaking overlooking the Rhine river, the vineyards, and the town of Oberwesel. We stayed there for 3 days and never left the property. The grounds were well maintained, and the garden had a romantic appeal. Our room was number 14, and exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was wonderful, and while overlooking the Rhine made the occasion special. Dinners had a fixed menu, and the food was very good. I would rate this hotel better than some 5 star hotels we stayed at during our many travels over the years. This was the best hotel in our 2018 European trip which included France and Switzerland. The staff was amazing. We will be back with a longer stay!!!

Room tip: Any room is good at this hotel.

The castle was very well cared for and charming. The views were breathtaking. We didn't even need to venture into town. There was plenty to explore on the lovely, roaming grounds of the castle. Every turn in the garden revealed hidden surprises--romantic swings, ponds, rose-covered arcades, tree houses, large chess set, and even a pool table/game room tucked away. I didn't even get to finish exploring the area. The formal dinner was delicious--no, you didn't get very many choices with the dinner. However, I tried (and LOVED) dishes I would probably not have ordered. The breakfast was also delicious and plentiful, with many choices. The room was spacious, romantic, impeccable, and well-appointed. The room was also full of little surprises. All-in-all the best night of our 3 week tour of Europe.
